Packing certain blends.

Hi guys,

Tonight, to get away from the hectic things that have been happening lately, I pulled out a pipe and attempted to smoke a bowl. Well tonight I chose to try Black Mallory, as I havent tried this blend before.

I packed it to the best of my abilities, which up until now, has not let me down. I use the Frank method but had a difficult time packing it due to the long ribbon cut. Is there a special way that I should be packing this kind? I should mention that I attempted to pack at different tightnesses to no avail. What should I do?

List what was "wrong" with the way it smoked, and we can help remedy. Problems include too tight, not tight enough, too moist, and too dry. (The latter two are not problems with packing per se, but will definitely affect the burn.)

I do love Black Mallory, I find it does need to be rubbed out a little and it can be very moist from the tin, I would advice to let it dry out first and pack loose and not too tight. It can be just a bit of bad luck, I'm sure the next bowl will be fine.

Re: Packing certain blends.

When packing blends that are long ribbon or shag cuts, especially if using the Frank Method, there is nothing wrong with taking a sharp pair of scissors and snipping through the tin of tobacco, up and down and cross ways, a few times. It does not change anything, except for making it much easier to pack!

Re: Packing certain blends.

Thanks for the responses guys. I took Dubin's advice and let it dry out for a little bit and rubbed it out a bit. Smoked MUCH better.
