Hmm, Virgina or English...
Well, I've been smoking my Savinelli Antique Shell (dedicated to aromatics) for about 4 months now, and its a pleasure no man should do without out. Of course, as any pipe smoker knows (especially this lot...) the pipe slope is much like a greasy sheet of steel flipped to an 85 degree angle, its a bit difficult to descend with a steady foot. Truthfully the only thing that's kept me from buying up pipes and mounds of tobacco is my money pool, poor college student and all that.
Anyhow, I'm intending to buy my next pipe soon and I'm trying to decide if I want to smoke Virginas or English blends out of it. Now, I know I could probably smoke a bowl of each and not have it affect the flavor too much, but I find that a single bowl isn't quite enough to truly judge the blend, so I wanted to see what the gorillas say about this. If you wonderful so-and-so's could perhaps tell me a bit about the differences between the two and what not, I would be ever so grateful. My grandpa is probably going to be getting me a new pipe for Christmas, so this choice isn't quite as monumental as I'm making it...but who cares! |

Re: Hmm, Virgina or English...
if i were you, i'd go buy a cheap corn cob for under $5, swing by your local shop (if you have one) and see if they'll allow you to try a sample of each.
or, you could buy a cob, then maybe someone on here could send you small a sample of each for you to base your judgement on. do you have a shop that sells corn cobs? i have a gas station that has the biggest variety i've ever seen. some wal-marts or grociery stores have them as well.

Re: Hmm, Virgina or English...
Gah, how I'd like to! I don't know why but cobs are remarkably scarce around these parts. I've been wanting to get one for precisely that reason, probably and extra one so I can share the joy of the pipe with friends, but no luck. I'm going to look a little harder though, there have to be some corncobs 'round these parts, I'm the south for chrissakes.

Re: Hmm, Virgina or English...
I'd be happy to send you a couple bowls of some different va's and english blends if you'd like. I can't send huge samples, as my personal stock is running a bit low at the moment, but I'll do what I can. Shoot me an addy.

Re: Hmm, Virgina or English...
Walmart sometimes has cobs. Walgreens usually has em.......but if you haven't bought from Frenchy, you're in for a treat!
http://www.frenchyspipes.com/index.php?crn=206&start=2 I like the country gentlemen cobs. (slightly larger bowl) ![]() |

Re: Hmm, Virgina or English...
Thats what I'd do too... a couple cobs to see what you prefer. At $5 a piece you can't go wrong.
