Steppin' Into the Pipe Forum...please keep IHT away from me!!

I finally thought I'd drop in and say an official "hello" & "thank you" to everybody that hangs and contributes in the Pipe Forum. I joined CS a few years ago because of my love for cigars. I soon found these boards and the fellow members to be a great source of information and camaraderie. I bought two really cheap pipes around the same time, but never really picked them up. Like a lot of others that have been discouraged early, I never really gave it a fair shot. I've always wanted to get into it too, and started pouring through this forum a few weeks ago. Maybe it's the weather or the season. Maybe it's the fact that my father was a pipe smoker, and it's one more thing that we can share as we both get older. Or maybe it's the fact that I sell commercial & residential real estate in a shitty market, and this seems to be a lot less expensive than premium habanos ! All kidding aside, I imagine it's a combination of all of the above. I do know one thing though. It seems to be totally different from cigars, and that's something that I can really appreciate.

And just like when I was new to cigars, I am once again stepping into new territory. It also goes without saying that I can't thank you guys and gals enough for all of the helpful and thorough info that's been posted throughout this forum. Herein lies my problem... It seems that I was one of the main instigators that initially put a boot in IHT's backside, hurling him down the Slippery Slope (habano-style) a few years back, so I have no idea what that lil' bugger has in store for me now! It also appears that somebody stapled a tin star to his chest and made him Sheriff!!(what were YOU smoking, Paul?) Guy'll probably have me out picking up anything, everything, and then some! "Don't worry John...that's not expensive for a pipe!" or "Yeah John, this'll be a classic years down the road. You should buy the remaining stock. Think of it as an investment!". Paybacks are hell, I guess.

In all seriousity though, I'm really looking forward to learning a lot more about what I hope will be a very long and enjoyable hobby and craft. I have a ton of questions and comments, but will reserve those for later. Then again, I always have Greg on speed dial (God help us both!) Happy holidays to all!

John

Those were pretty bad, weren't they? Like I said, learnin' along the way.

I'd welcome suggestions for different baccy, too. As far as cigars go, I'm med, med-full, full, or King Kong, depending on the mood. But I'd like to look for a wide variety. I'm just not sure where to start. I've had Nightcap, which was tasty, but that's about it.

Welcome to the pipe forum John. I've got a friend who's a real-estate broker. Boom to budget isn't always a bad thing. As for dealing with IHT, its every man for himself. Good luck!

Welcome to the pipe forum, John. Greg's not that hard to deal with ... you just have to learn to ignore him sometimes (j/k Greg ... nuthin' but luv). When I first started the pipe from cigar land, I sought out the stronger/bolder English blends like Nightcap. I still enjoy those, especially on a crisp fall or winter day/night. Shortly thereafter, I started sampling Virginias and Va-Perique blends, which I found appealed to some things I like about fine Habanos -- the complexity, the depth of flavor, etc. Anyway, you'll find a lot of great suggestions round here and have no problem getting into the swing of things.

A whole new world to explore, John. Welcome to our little corner of the jungle. Why not jump into the TOM and try some new things as well as contribute a review. Try the newbie sampler thread and get a selection of stuff to try.

Welcome to the pipe forum, m'town. Based on the quote above, I'd try some Odyssey and Escudo. If you decide to try either of those, pm me an addy and I'll get a few bowlfuls of each out to ya.

Oh, and Greg doesn't really scare anybody, anymore.

Re: Steppin' Into the Pipe Forum...please keep IHT away from me!!

I want to thank everybody for welcoming me into the Pipe Forum, offering bits of wisdom & advice, and wishing me well. As I said before, I've been trying to take everything in by pouring over a lot of the old & new threads. The amount of info in FAQs (along with the other stickys) has been EXTREMELY helpful, too! I've always appreciated the fact that there are a lot of knowledgeable people out there willing to take the time to help the newer folks. You guys (and gals) are awesome!! Happy holidays to all, and keep the suggestions coming!!
