Moisture and Cellaring

Hi Everyone,

I was just reviewing the cellaring website:
http://agingfaq.nocturne.org/index.php

but it didn't really answer a question that I have. If you buy a large amount of bulk tobacco should you dry it out to your preferred dryness before you cellar it or just leave it wet?

I would leave it wet. If the seal doesnt hold when you cellar it, you still have a chance to notice it before the tobacco becomes too dry to use. If its already dry, itll be powder before you know it. Whether it affects the aging process itself, I do not know.

Re: Moisture and Cellaring

Water accelerates many a chemical reaction. So if the goal is aging you will definitely want moist tobacco. Dry tobacco would most likely "freeze" in age.
