Christmas Cheer Prep

I was gifted a 2006 can of CC. I've opend it up and found the tobacco odd. How do I prepare this stuff? I just tried using it straight from the can but found it too wet. So it needs drying a bit. Do I need to cut it up too?

Re: Christmas Cheer Prep

Rub it out onto a piece of paper and let it dry out for a little bit. It needs a little time to dry out, but it will help avoid the bite.

Re: Christmas Cheer Prep

From my experience Joe, this stuff holds moisture like one of those magic sponges that you get at the county fair. I've found that I need to rub it pretty fine and dry it quite a bit. Some here will open a new tin, dump it out and rub the whole thing and let it set out for a while...not to dry it out completely but say maybe let it dry halfway. Then put it back in the can and from there on your future smokes should take less individual prep.

Re: Christmas Cheer Prep

my advice would be to get a big bowl, empty the tin in the bowl, rub the entire contents of the tin out and put it back in the tin.

the reason for this is because McClelland "broken flakes", like xmas cheer, once they dry out a bit, you can't rub them out to the desired cut you'd want to pack your pipe with (in my experience). better to rub it all out once you open it, then dry out the amount you want to smoke when the time comes (on a paper towel, in a cup, on paper plate, whatever).
