Thumbs up Cool vintage cobs

I wanted to share 2 of my recent acquisitions as I thought that they were a little different.

So I was puttering around on my motorized bicycle down in the French Quarter. There are a couple cigar shops down there I had been meaning to check out and I wanted to take in the city a bit. Well I stopped by one place that was something of a cigar shop and novelty shop. I asked them if they had any tobacco and they pointed to a few jars of house blends. Above those jars they had an old Missouri Meerscheaum display sporting a small collection of pipes covered in dust and cob webs.

Immediately I was drawn to a couple pipes due to their unique shapes. For $5 a piece I felt like I got a hell of a deal and couldn't wait to snap a couple up.

You can see that the one on the left has a much larger bowl. What I did was sand it out to increase the diameter. I felt like it was a shame to have such a nice big cob with a puny bowl(it was originally the same size as the one on the right).

Here is a shot of it with some Frog Morton loaded to give you a better perspective of the unique shape. The smoke is exceptionally cool and sweet. Sorry about the crappy picture quality.

This other one is cool because of the unique stem / shank shape and little metal thing. I'll probably bore this one out a bit too as it looks like it could handle it:

What I'd like to do is get some better stems made for these. I remember seeing someone do this but I can't find the site.

So does anyone else have any different cobs? I think I'm on my way to a collection.

I don't mean to be a prick, but the first one, at least, is a common MM cob shape (http://www.corncobpipe.com/products.html), although the second one doesn't look like an MM.

$5 sounds like a great price to me.

ah s**t. Needless to say I feel a little silly now but for what it's worth I never noticed that particular shape when I was browsing their catalog. It's got a wood bottom to it and is much larger then any of my other cobs. I can safely recommend it... especially when you bore it out a bit. It's my new favorite.

The second one has the MM sticker on the bottom of it... for that reason I'm fairly certain its a MM but I could be wrong. If anyone has any more info on it I would love to hear about it. I've definately become a corn cob snob.

...and it's needless to say I'm easily amused.

It looks like I got that egg shaped one below cost. I can't complain.

I have a standard MM in straigt and bent, as well as a country gentleman... all good smokers and cheap.
