Hey Fellas,
Been gathering a good bit of info from you guys the past week, thought I'd say hello. On me, I'm fresh out of college this December now back living in southern California, and still looking for a job to satisfy my aviation degree. After spending plenty of time in cigarettes and hookahs, and the usual college stuff, I found an appreciation for the more relaxed, sow-paced art of pipes. Being a lover of the outdoors, living in Texas for four years and catching the wonderful puffs of the locals, I appreciated the more earthy image the pipe portrayed and went and purchased a MacQueen pipe with their King Arthur house blend. Not really having the time to find out what the heck I was doing, that time was spent just dabbling in it. By now, I've discovered that a corncob smokes better than what I've got... Also, Dubinthedam's got some great info. Now I'm looking into the Savinelli's now that I think I can handle something more pricey. Anyways, cheers, and we'll see you on the forum. -- Rev |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
Hello gents!
![]() I have been reviewing the pipe forums for about 3 weeks now, just reading up on everything. I originally joined puff (back when it was club stogie) back in 2006 when I first got into cigars. Unfortunately, I had to take almost a year off from smoking anything due to quitting cigarettes (thank god for Chantix). Around August of last year, I picked up cigars again and since then, I have noticed that I can smoke em without any desire to have a Cigarette (good thing after I dropped $170 on Cbid). I have always wanted to try a pipe, but was hesitant until a co-worker bought me a cob to make up for an argument that we had. Needless to say, I have been messing around with the pipe for the last couple of weeks with some success and some failure, but haif the fun in trying something new is learning from your mistakes. ![]()

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
Hi fellow pipe lovers,
I was a sometime pipe smoker for years. I started in college. Many years later, I took a buss to work, got off near a tobacco shop, to transfer to the next bus, and started buying pipes and pipe tobacco—Balkan Sobranie. For some reason I stopped. Fast forward to December 2008. While cleaning up the house, getting ready to move, I found a Savinelli Bing and B/C Cherry wood/Poker both had broken stems. My little boy had bit them off. It made me recall the magic of smoking a pipe. I sent them both out for repairs, the B/C to Mark Tinsky and the Bing to Savinelli Service Center. Then I was beset by PAD (Pipe Acquisition Disease) in a few months, I acquired several Petersons, Savinellis, Danbarks, Corn Cobs, etc. Pipe smoking has brought back to my life a sense of relaxation and enjoyment that I truly appreciate. Hello, m'names Bianca. A girl my age picking up pipe smoking is probably ridiculous, but I have my reasons. I'll post up a video in a week or two explaining my story.
Lookin' forward to many interesting discussions! |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
Hello all. Thought I'd join in here. I've been smoking a pipe since I was 17. I'm 43 now. I have a fairly large collection. I'm not partial to any one maker. I have the usual suspects in my collection. I do enjoy my Castello collection more than any other though. I collect Eric Nording Freehands...Savinelli Aligators....Peterson system pipes and Meershaum pipes. I make my own tobacco blends. I am partial to 965 and am starting to get nervous about the whole Dunhill mess
. One of my favorite blends incorporates 12 oz of Early morning pipe with 4 oz of a black walnut aromatic. I get it through a local supplier but I think it is a Peter Stokkebye brand. I let it age for a year and am starting to wonder if I will be able to make any more. Oh well. Hello again!!! |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
I am new. Love the site and the conversation I am reading here. I found the Puff.com while looking for tins or pouches of Balkan Sobranie in Google when low and behold a recipe for the home made Balkan Sobranie I had shared on http:TobaccoReviews.com - The largest collection of pipe tobacco reviews on the internet was being discussed here on the forums. I felt obligated to join in the discussion and hopefully solicit help in refining the recipe from other BS lovers. But I have found quite a bit more than that since I have been here. Now about myself, I became interested in pipe tobacco when I was in college back in the 70's and had discontinued smoking for a while until I rediscovered it in the late 90's. I am a resident of the city of New Orleans and work as a teacher and musician.
As for what I smoke, I prefer my Dunhill shell straight billiard and other pipes with small bowls such as my rusticated Brebia but I have also quite a free hand collection. One personal favorite is a pipe crafted by Michael Kabik for Sven Lars. It resembles an egg shape but also has insect form to it. Kabik would later leave pipe making and become an artist mainly focusing on insect artwork. Read on him at Pipe Lore: Introduction to Michael Kabik . My favorite Tobacco has been mentioned already but I also like Dunhill Nightcap, 956, EMP and the pipe mixtures by G.L. Pease, Esoterica Tobacco, Comptons of Gasheils . As you might guess English Latakia type mixtures are at the top of my list but I like to change pace with Virginias and cigar mixtures every once in a while. I can not stand artificially flavored tobacco except if a few cases like Peases Memphisto or Esoterica's Pembroke. I am the same way about coffee, I never flavor it. HA HA ! Pleasure to meet you guys. Last edited by sounds7; 04-08-2009 at 08:36 PM.. |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
Hi I'm new here so I'll try my best to avoid noob questions. I have actually played with pipe smoking over the years but cigarettes refused to loosen their death grip on my soul. I tried again a month ago and suprisingly enough this time it seems to be working. I have cut down from 2 packs a day to 2-3 pipes and 6 cigarettes a day and look to cut the cigs out entirely when I run this carton down. I have a number of pipes in my collection, most of which are from my grandfather's collection, Peterson, Kaywoodie, Dr Grabow and some meerschaums all dating to the 50's-60's. My other interests are drinking Absinthe or any other fine liquor (Scotch, Bourbon, Cassis, etc.). I am also an avid fan of history from the American Civil War to the World Wars.
