Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hi,

I'm a new pipe smoker (previously didn't smoke). I just picked up a Peterson Donegal #68 and some Adirondak Blend from Cupojoes. Decided I needed an unhealthy hobby at 33. Seriously, I have a busy life and need something to force me to slow down and I figured a pipe would fit right in with the hiking and pocket knife collecting I do. Now, first order of business is to find an aromatic that has a room note that is enjoyable for my wife that has an enjoyable taste!

Got a Nording Freehand for Christmas and have since bought 5 more pipes. I really enjoy smoking a pipe especially now that cigars are so costly. Saves me money in the long run smoking a pipe.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hello to everyone! I've been smoking pipes and cigars for 43 of my 39 years, and I registered at this site as soon as I found it and beheld the lurid sights. Actually, I recently returned to pipesmoking after a decade of dedicated cigar smoking. I have 15 briar pipes and 5 MM cobs. Of the briars, three are 30+ years old and better than ever. The latter are a bent pot GBD 5th Avenue, a Sasieni Four-Dot (not 4-Dot) Ruff Root bent blastie, and a heavenly smooth Savory's Argyll Duxford, also in a bent pot. I acquired the remaining briars in the last year after I returned to the piping fold. I'm looking forward to learning a lot of new stuff - and also old stuff I've forgotten - amid this learned company.

I recently retired from a 30-year government career and now spend my time indulging my hobbies, which include photography, puffing on my pipe rotation while on the internet, reading books on a variety of historical and biographical subjects, having breakfast at Starbucks, and giving my grown children the retirement funds that survived the recent financial collapse. So I'm indeed very happy to be here.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hello to everyone! After lurking around this forum for about a month or so, I decided to join. The information on this site has been invaluable. This kind of information was not readily available when I started pipe smoking back in the early 1980’s.

I’m getting back into pipe smoking again & away from cigars. Cigars are getting too expensive on top of the recent higher Fed & state taxes. I'll probably get more bang for the buck with pipe tobacco for the daily puffs.

I'll be adding three more pipes to my current collection of seven pipes that I got back in the early 1980’s. In my current collection is a Sasieni Four-Dot Rustic apple, Willmer bent, Ben Wade freehand, Cesare Ultra Splendida, Charatan bent, Comoy Regent, & Savinelli poker. The new pipes on order is a Dunhill dublin, Mastro de Paja dublin & Stanwell bulldog.

I'm looking forward in trying different tobacco blends & brands. With the internet, I'm no longer tied down to the limited selections at the b&m places even though I would prefer to shop locally.

Looks like we got two new Ed's. Glad to have both of you guys here. Lots of information on this site to spend hours reading. You will meet a lot of great guys here as well. I don't think there is a more welcoming bunch than this pipe forum.

Mojo I feel your pain on the new state taxes that just added more salt to the wound the fed tax caused. Arkansas is hitting us pretty hard to fund a network of trauma centers. At least they say that is where the money will go.

Welcom to the forum!!

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hey everybody,
I'm a 5 year cigar smoker that's recently been dabbling in the fine art of pipe smoking, just for a change of pace. I only own one cheap Dr. Grabow, but that's soon to change. I never realized the depth of pipe smoking, I always thought that there was much more variety in the cigar world. I couldn't have been more wrong! Anywho I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this magnificent site, and figuring out some of the tricks of the trade, not to mention smoking some great tobacco!

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hey All,
My name's Randy. Live in Indianapolis, IN. Not many pipe smokers here in Indy. Found this site from another pipester in Ireland. I prefer English blends, though now and then I'll smoke an aromatic. I have both bents and straight pipes. I buy my tobacco at a little shop on the north end of town called, Tobacco Outlet. They have some very good bulk blends. For my tinned choices, either The Pipe Puffer shop on the south side or Hardwickes in Broadripple Indiana. I like dark beers Guinness Draught, Michelob Amber Bock, Berghoff Bock. For coffees I like Cafe con Leche. Screw Starbucks, my homemades are better. Pink Floyd and The Beatles are my music choices. Hope to hear from other pipe smokers in Indy.

Though I love Starbucks, let me be the first to welcome you aboard. I think you'll find that despite different tastes, this forum, unlike many another, is always happy to have new members join the conversation. Hope you find this a pleasurable and informative site. Cheers.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Thank you for all the warm welcomes! I've already found a treasure trove of pipe and pipe tobacco related information in this site, with promise of much more to come. Since I also smoke cigars these forums are perfect for me.

Very glad indeed to hear that! I've actually received replies to my posts in this forums! Another forum that I frequented before I learned about this one is apparently an in-crowd only site, where newcomers are largely ignored and the regulars always fulsomely praise any comment or opinion posted by their stern single moderator. I prefer a more democratic, collegiate atmosphere - like this one, where you can learn and relate properly to fellow pipe smokers.
