Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hello all. Another relative newb checking in here. I took up the pipe a few months ago after a long and losing battle with cigars. My introduction was pretty typical, a basket briar and a couple of bags of bulk aros from the local B&M. Quikly moved to tinned blends, two Frogs and an ambrosia called Westminster. Five months in, I'm up to six Savinelli and Peterson bent billiards with a number of favorite tabacs, and several more waiting their turn. I have been lurking about this site for a couple of months now, and have picked up a lot of good advise on the subject. Thanks to all.

This is my first attempt to participate in an online forum, so I will try to mind my Ps and Qs. Lurking about this forum was unique, in my experience, in that I have yet to read a post that seemed terse or disparaging in any way. You just seem like a swell bunch, so I thought, if no one would mind, I would step in and say hello. Thanks again.

The first kind. I was a member of another group and someone posted a message that mentioned this site. The rest is history, for me.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hey Folx- Thought I would poke my head out of the ground and say hello. Been lurking around here sponging up info for a short while now. Joined the cigar forum a couple years ago but haven't been active on that side of things.

I just started smoking a pipe the past 3 months or so and enjoying the heck out of it, what a great way to spend sitting on the porch in the evening! Pretty much happy at the bottom of the food chain (for now) with my low end estates and cobs but I can see how this hobby will send me down a slippery slope and be yet another one of my nerdly obsessions (I mean that in the best possible way). Cleaning up estate pipes really appeals to me as someone who is into tinkering with recycled/reused 'garbage'....the weather is getting nice so hope to have some luck at the estate sales/flea market expanding the collection on the cheap. Still finding my likes/dislikes tobacco wise (so far only a couple dislikes....some horrid aro blends that the cigar shop recommended). Anyway, just thought I would give a 'hello'.

i've seen a few like that as well.

welcome to "Puff Pipe Forum".

welcome to everyone else i haven't replied to as well.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Hi all,

suppose I should have introduced myself a while ago. New pipe smoker from Canada. I've been smoking cigars on/off for about 20 years. I'm kinda tired of them and want something different to enjoy while sitting on the deck at the lake or while walking the dog. I find I want something with a more pleasing room note in the hopes I can even move my 'hobby' into the basement . My wife enjoys the pleasant aromas produced by some of the pipe tobaccos so that's a good reason to switch to a pipe.

I own a cheap Medico pipe. I didn't want to invest too much into it just in case. I wish I had the collection of pipes my grandfather owned but alas it's all gone - years ago. So now my quest begins for some Peterson's (i'm of Irish descent), some Stanwell's and any other brand one might recommend. I live in Canada so buying pipes and tobacco is a very expensive past time with the taxes etc. I'll be doing some on-line orders from the USA very soon. I'm looking to spend less than $100 for the pipe as I want to purchase several and go from there.

Great info on this site!! I'm addicted already.

Scott

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

estates can be bought for decent prices and there more than enough info on restoring them here on this site.
then again mm cobs smoke great and are very good for trying out new tobaccos.

Welcome Smurph, I'm also relatively new to Pipe smoking, I'm "learning"(smoking a lot of tobacco) quickly though.

Enjoy all of the information on here!

I know sometimes you may think "I can't ask that", shoot me a PM and I'll help if I can. Hey, I've been there but any question is a good question.
