Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Avé (i find this to be the most suitable greeting for this noble forum)

I'm a newbie pipe smoker, had a honeymoon with aromatics. Currently exploring Virginia/perique blends with Reiners long golden flake and solani 633. Next stop: Latakia (when i can afford a new pipe for the stuff)

Found this forum from youtube. I really enjoyed Dubinthedams videos and wanted to find out what he is raving about with this puff forum stuff.

So, Cheers!

Greetings, Brothers of the Briar (and Bash and Meer and...)
I've been smoking pipes off and on since dirt (1958 or so), but know little, so will be glad to absorb the wisdom of the ages from you sages.
Anyone collect antique pipes? I'm going broke doing so, but it's a fun ride to the poor house. Have stepped up my collecting (and smoking) since moving to England to work almost 4 years ago. Please do check out our Pipe Club of London website. Do a www dot pipecluboflondon dot com and you're there.
Do poke around and be sure to sign our guest book. IF anybody is interested, I can post some antique pipe pics from my collection. If nobody is interested, well, I guess I'll post some antique pipe pics from my collection.
Happy puffing. - Johnny - LongJnSilver

Good to hear from you, I am sitting in Brussels for the next few years. I just ended my first full year over here and now that I have my wits about me, I am starting to be on the look out for the smaller places to shop and antique markets and the like. I am hoping to find some nice Estate pipes while on the browse.

I will give your site a look as soon as I get to work

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

You will find some real treasures in Brussels! Last year I bought a ceramic bisque skull pipe from a dealer there who had bought pipes from a Dutch museum and old royalty. It's coupled to a 15" stem - center section is an albaross wingbone... sterling and amber decoration. Macabre, but impressive. I'll try to post a pic later. I think you have to have all pics uploaded to a url to post here - no way to U/L directly from your computer. Keep your peepers peeled when you're in those antique shops! - Johnny -

Lucky guy you. Get to move to England. I can only imagine the higher rate of treasure finding on that isle. I can also imagine that a lot of it has already been mightily plundered yet still, you can see a whole bunch more just waiting to be unlocked.

You should start burglaring some of them old castles in the countryside over yonder.

Very warm welcome.
I will go check out your dot com site too.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

Howdy folks,

comin' to you from shreveport louisiana. a vanilla town in an otherwise diverse and interesting state. perique is made here down in st. james parish ( i live in caddo parish) and before i knew that, i had identified perique as one of my favorite ingredients in a blend. i'm primarily a pipe smoker. don't do cigars that often, but i'd never turn one down.
i've been smoking a pipe for about 3 months now, but have some good experience with tobaccos. i may have some advice to share, but mostly I'm here to learn and discuss.

i think supporting your local tobacconist of choice is crucial. M.A.'s Smoke House is my favorite one locally (there are not that many). They do a lot of custom blending making it a great place to buy bulk tobacco. If you are passing through Shreveport, it's worth a stop.

hello to you all, can't wait to get swimming.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

After lurking and reading threads for quite some time, I just couldn't help myself...I had to sign up. The conversation is civil, the information interesting, and it looks like a great forum for topical discussion.

I've smoked pipe and cigars for years, mostly pipe now although I do have a well stocked humidor. I've gone through several pipes and blends over the years, but right now, my tastes are centered around the great taste of burley. Prince Albert is a daily smoke and interchanges nicely with Carter Hall. I prefer a straight pipe, and am partial to Stanwell's. My two favorite times to smoke are while driving (it seems to take the edge off of dealing with the nutcases on the road), and while relaxing in my recliner. Although I can be found with the briar just about anytime really.

As I write this, I'm puffing on an old Shelton that use to belong to my father. It's small and simple, but the nostaligia of it keeps it in the rotation. It's shorter than intended as my father made a repair to it at one point.

That's it for now...time to go back to reading.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

I'm new to the forum and to the pipe.

I smoke the occasional cigar, and recently decided to pick up a pipe to take on a camping trip. I had no idea that I'd end up enjoying it as much as I did.

I live on the East Coast of Canada, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and after quickly reviewing these forums have discovered I'm paying rather obscene prices. I went to a local shop and asked for the cheapest "good" pipe they had, and was sold a Medico for $40 along with a $15 pouch of Brigham tobacco (Mark Twain blend).

It was money well spent, as I've really been enjoying myself. And have since tried out a couple of other Brigham blends (they seem to be the only blends the store recommends). Reading these forums has really opened my eyes to just how big the pipe world is! You've all gotten me pretty excited to try new pipes and new tobaccos!

Welcome to Puff DJO!

I also used to smoke cigars only, & a couple months ago wandered into the wonderful world or pipes. All I can say is it's quite addicting. I've bought five pipes off ebay, two brand new pipes, & about fourty tins of tobacco.......all in two months. Needless to say I'm in trouble with my fiance.

All of the guys (and gals) on here are quite friendly, so whatever questions you have just ask away.

Here's where I started figuring some stuff out, very good stuff.

Welcome!!! I love Halifax and the rest of Nova Scotia. The MacDonald Bridge is named for one of my great uncles

Taxes are a killer in Canada. But you can get a lot more enjoyment per Looney out of a pipe than you can from a cigar.

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)

I'm new.

And I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm big into cigars and have been for a little bit, very much enjoy them. Love the smell and pretty much the tastes I've been getting from the pipe. Although I'm pretty sure I need to get some pipe cleaners, rather than just trying to clean it with paper towels. I smell resin...and I taste it. :vomits:

Anyhow. Hello.
