Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
Hello everyone!
Im a young pipe smoker from Norway. I'm only 18, but I got a pipe for my birthday from one of my friends (because Ive always been talking about how awesome pipes are and how I'd want to try it). My pipe is a cheap, small Peterson of Dublin. With a bend. I'm quite new to the hobby but I really enjoy sitting outside on these summer nights with a pipe and good friends. There used to be a tobacconist not far from here, but they went under, and now the only good selection tobacco store is in Oslo, which is far from here. Luckily that store also has an online mail order In Norway its illegal to import any tobacco products, so I can't buy from non-norwegian online stores. Which sucks. I'm going to London in October, gonna visit the famous pipe/tobacco-stores there and stock up heavily while I have the chance! (If I get pulled over in customs at the airport I'm screwed though. Playing the risks!) Anyway. Have any of you smoked Greve Gilbert Hamiltons Blandning? Its a swedish blend, probably the most famous and most popular pure tobacco blend in scandinavia. |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
I will introduce myself in this thread, even though I'm not really new here. I am new to pipes though.
I've been a cigar puffer for a couple of years, and decided to try the pipe again. I carried one with me throughout Operation Desert Storm (almost 20 years ago), but never did get the hang of it or enjoy it that much. So after I returned home I gave it up. I was a forum member on Cigar Live, and it got rolled into the Puff family. So I was on here reading the pipe forums and started getting an itch to try the pipe again. As I learned from smoking cigars, quality tobacco makes all the difference. Brian "KinnScience" had a Barling for sale, and I bought it and he was kind enough to set me up with a starter kit--along with the Barling I got a MM cob, a czech tool, and a nice sampler of tobaccos. I'm really enjoying the pipe, and after reading the FAQs and 101's here I am getting the hang of properly packing my pipe and maintaining it afterward. I now have 3 Peterson's on the way from Matt "Dedalus", and am well on my way to a nice rack of pipes. Also I have a friend here who's a soldier in the U.S. Amry that I often smoke with who is also taking up the pipe. He ordered about $20 worth of MM corncob pipes and accessories from Frenchy's. Well Frenchy wasn't having any of that! He refunded my friend's money, and then sent him a 1/2 dozen pipes, pouches, tobacco, and pipe nails free of charge! So now my freind is all set for piping pleasure. Look forward to talking pipes with you guys in the future! Les in Seoul, Korea |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
g'day from downunder. Just started this hobby and am enjoying it very much so far. Limited tobaks available here in Australia so it will be a bit of local with the balance of importing for me

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
Welcome to the forum coonass! That's a term I haven't heard in years. I use to work on towboats out of Houma and lived in New Orleans (in a rented room located on the corner of Jackson and Magazine Streets). Coonass was a bit more common terminology there.
Enjoy your new pipe. |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
I've been smoking for more than 30 years now and started with a pipe. Back before the days of the internet and when cable TV was something we thought was only science fiction stories. I made my own first pipe at the age of 14 out of a corn cob and a branch from some bush that was easy to hollow out. My first smoke was a stolen pinch of Prince Albert from my grandfathers room.
At the time I had no idea what I was doing, (I still may not know what I'm doing), but I knew I liked the smell of my grandfathers pipe. Over the years many things have changed for me and I've tried many tobaccos. Recently I've returned to the old Prince as my favorite again. And of course, I'm smoking it in a cob. |

Re: Pipe Forum: new members (introduce yourself)
Hello, I'm an avid tobacco enthusiast and relatively new to the forum. I have already received some useful advice that helped me invest in my first briar pipe. Up to now I have been using the tried and true corn cob but I wanted something a bit more elegant and permanent. I now have two beautiful Vauen pipes (well... one beautiful, one very functional haha) in my collection that are already serving me commendably. I look forward to talking with everyone and getting more useful info.
