Sunday Pipe Rack Project

I was in the wood shop today and I decided to try my hand at building a pipe rack or two. I had some Black Walnut lying around, so I threw it on the lathe and this is what I came up with. I haven't glued or stained them yet, but I am happy with the project so far.

Re: Sunday Pipe Rack Project

I said I built two, so here are pictures of the other design I came up with. It also has to be finish sanded, glues, and stained to really look it's best, but here it is so far. I will post more pics once I have them completed.

Those are pretty cool. I need to get off my butt and make one myself.

You aren't kidding. I have a nice one where I can turn the head out away from the base to turn large bowls, or pipe racks as it were, and it set me back a pretty penny.

I used a router with a round nose bit. I set the gauge on my router so the plunge would be even on each hole. Then I plunged the bit into the wood and I freehanded the oval shape so the pipes would sit in them snugly.

Re: Sunday Pipe Rack Project

You should think of building some to sell.
