Meershaum no tasten guten

I got my first meer about a couple weeks ago and I smoked it about 10 times with various tobaccos and it just doesn't taste like my briars, almost chemical tasting. It even made penzance tatste nasty. Am I missing something?

Re: Meershaum no tasten guten

I bought my first meer yesterday too; I've had 2 different blends in it so far, and each tasted a little differently, but with every draw, they tasted similar and had a "sweetness" as the first 1/3 of the draw hit my tongue. Actually kind of pleasant, but I'm wondering if it's the meer or not. I'll have to wait to try these blends in my briar to tell much more.

How can you really tell if its a meer or not anyways? I read somewhere supposedly if you lick your finger and put it to the meer that its suppose to stick?

The best thing to do is to buy from reputable peopole who sell pipes made from Block Meerschaum. Aside from that, sometimes Meerschaum has a wierd stink that makes things taste not so good. I get it when I dump an aro after my latakia blend.

The Meerschaum Store is a reputable place that uses only block, and it is a nice pipe I just can't get past the taste. Looks like it'll be going on Ebay.

I bought a cheapie a few months back on flea bay and it smokes ok, but sometimes after it has been sitting for a while it smells like toasted marshmallows.
