Escudo in a cob
Hello everyone.
Long time lurker....first time poster. I've been smoking a pipe for about a year now....and I'm enjoying every second of it. I'm just curious how you other pipers are smoking Escudo. Escudo has been the first pipe tobacco to really do something to me. But oddly, I have noticed that when I smoke the Escudo in the humble MM Legend cob pipe, the turn out, is far superior to when I smoke it in my briars. Mind you, my briars do not go above the $50 range....so maybe I am not putting enough monies in to get me a proper pipe. I just find it odd that Escudo: one of the more expensive blends, seems to shine so brightly in my cheap humble corncob. Just curious as to what ya'll other pipers think of this. |

Re: Escudo in a cob
the cob is a great pipe to smoke in. The nice thing is that it picks up no other flavors from what else you maybe smoking in it so you get the full taste of the escudo and nothing else. Escudo is one of my favorite blends

Re: Escudo in a cob
I've got a handful of briars ranging in the 20-$50 range... nothing spectacular. I pretty much smoke exclusively out of my cobs. Escudo is definately on my "to try" list.

My 2 $50 pipes are a Butz Choquin straight billiard, and a Brigham apple Voyageur. The butz kills the Escudo, and the Brigham does an OK job. I took the advice of some fellow on the internet, and I roll an Escudo "coin", like I'm rolling a carpet....then, I squish it around a bit, then, I casually insert it into one of my Legend cobs (perfect fit), pinch off whats sticking out, rub that out a little, then stick it into the bowl....n' fire it up. 9 times out of 10....it delivers such a fine fine smoke! Such goodness! |

Re: Escudo in a cob
Cobs are simply great smokers. A great tobak will be great in a cob. Every piper ought to have cobs in regular rotation. The enjoyment of tobaks is the reason I smokje. The enjoyment of the tobaks is also the reason I smoke cobs.

Re: Escudo in a cob
I am smoking Escudo right now in my peterson 302, and as I have said before, does not say much to me, so I´ll try in the cob I have to see if it improves....

Re: Escudo in a cob
Escudo SUCKS!
j/k It's actually my favorite tobacco. I enjoy smoking my cobs from time to time just for a change of pace since most tobacco does have a different appeal when smoked from a fresh cob IMO.

Re: Escudo in a cob
Any B&M should have them. Just ask. They're usually not out on display.
You can buy them direct from Missouri Meerschaum too. www.corncobpipe.com

Re: Escudo in a cob
Cobs are great smokers, no doubt, and they do bring out the flavors offered by the blend of choice in a much brighter fashion than a briar. That is especially true with straight Virginia Blends, straight Burley Blends and Aromatics.
A Meerschaum Pipe does exactly the same thing. Give them a try as well! Johnny |

Re: Escudo in a cob
From my (limited) experience, a cob will smoke almost anything quite adequately. I tend to sample all new tobaccos in a cob to begin with. I also find that straight burleys shine particularly brightly in them.
As JohnnyFlake suggested, if you're looking for a pipe with similar characteristics as a cob but with a touch more panache, then you would be wise to look into getting yourself a meerschaum. |

Re: Escudo in a cob
Escudo. Yum.
Fresh figs in the tin. Barnyard piquant on the tongue. Heaven-scent drifting in the air. Smoother as it ages. I like Escudo a lot and find a small VA-dedicated bowl will focus your attention on that what makes it special.
