Who tried Boswell's Magnum Blend - English?

I guess I found an English Blend I do really like. It's very mild yet super aromatic and looks beautiful. Not expensive, either.

I also tried his Mild English but like this one better. I am currently sampling nine Boswell blends. I will report back on the others when I can really allow myself a verdict. But the Magnum and the Paradise (an aromatic) are on top so far.

By the way, not that that's new, but his pipes are gorgeous and very well priced. I got a fantastic freehand for my friend 70th birthday. Check out his site.

Re: Who tried Boswell's Magnum Blend - English?

My friend smokes a good amount of Magnum blend. It seems like whenever we sit down for a bowl that's what hes having so it has to be pretty damn good. I had some Northwoods last night and that stuff was really good so if it's anything like that then "I hear ya".

I gotta place an order with them soon so I'll add a couple ounces of the magnum blend to the list. At under $2 an ounce, why not?

Absolutely! Check it out. He can even do just an ounce. Boswell also usually packs some sample tobacco with each order. My Magnum was actually one of his samplers. Try the paradise, too, if you are at all enjoying aromatics.

I'm down for the occasional aromatic. I'll try that as well.

Cool, let us know how you like it. For example everybody was raving about his Berry Cobbler, great taste, fantastic room aroma, yadda, yadda. I found neither the taste nor the room aroma spectacular. It was ok but not great.

I don't know about the Magnum but for an English blend, his True English is great.

Magnum blend is a highly sweetened "Englamatic." I really didn't like it, nor did I care for Mild English.

Now Boswells Northwoods and True English are quite good, with Northwoods being one of my favorites. It is has a deep smoky flavor, and is extremely easy to pack and smoke to a fine gray ash. It is also very easy on the palette and does well in large-bowl pipes.

Re: Who tried Boswell's Magnum Blend - English?

Icculus, thanks for the info. I will order a sample of those two next time around. Here is what is funny. I really enjoy cigars, possibly more so than pipes. For cigars I would never smoke a flavored one. But with pipe tobacco I must say that I am rather on the aromatic side so far. Consider that I am only just starting. I've had one VaPer so far and liked it. There is so much different stuff out there it will take me a year to acquire a semblance of erudition on tobacco.

The Magnum is sweet smelling, not necessarily sweet tasting. I don't know if any casings were added, though. Possibly to some of the source baccies but not to the final blend I'd think.
