olive oil?
got my 1st estates & working on them, down to the final stages-i olive oiled the stems, have no murphy's oil soap for the bowls-i have no halcycon & budget is already spent for the month-has anyone used olive oil on the briar b4, & w/what results?-guess i should add, these are all rusticated pieces-TIA

Re: olive oil?
I tried it on blasted briar before and it left a dull residue (or ruined the existing polish) that I still haven't figured out how to get off

Re: olive oil?
well, last nite i went ahead & tried it-wiped it on lightly, sponged off the excess immediately, & went over it w/a soft toothbrush lightly-it brought out the warmth of the briar & left a very minor shine-the areas that looked like they had no finish b4 now match the rest of the finish-the difference is night & day
i don't think it's a replacement for the murphy's treatment & the briar could still use a bit of wax for protection-the key seems to be to use very little, just like when wiping the stem-after all, it is a food grade product & can turn rancid if a lot is used-for those of us who don't have a "refurbishing setup" yet though, it's a viable alternative mad hatter-i think either isopropyl alcohol or white vinegar would remove it-the alcohol may also remove the stain though-i'd probably try the white vinegar w/a soft toothbrush-toothpaste or baking soda may also work & be fine for the finish-i know they can remove oxidation, so they may work for olive oil too?
