Pipe Stores in Manhattan?
Hi Everyone,
Me and the wife are heading up to Manhattan on Thursday. We've never been and I was wondering if there are any "must-go-to" pipe stores around there.

Barclay Rex (570 Lexington Ave - they have multiple locations but I think that is the closest to the others), Davidoff (535 Madison Avenue) and de la Concha (1390 Avenue of the Americas) were all real nice shops. And all 3 are in walking distance of each other. Next time I am in NY, I want to hit Connoiseur Pipe and Tobacco.....but will need to check if it is still open.....would like to buy an Ed Burak pipe directly. Nat Sherman is also out there with a new location. Dig around at Davidoff for some older stuff. |

Re: Pipe Stores in Manhattan?
I was at de la Concha around lunch time and it was packed (well about 10 guys) were pipe smoking.....odd to go to a cigar/pipe shop and most of the clientelle are choosing pipes over cigars.
Also, the great thing about Manhattan.....there is going to be something next store or across the street that should be of interest to the wife. |

Re: Pipe Stores in Manhattan?
I went to the Barclay rex closest to grand central (70 E. 42nd looking at google) and wasn't that impressed. They had an acceptable selection of tinned (although fairly expensive, although that might be an NY thing), but not too extensive, very little bulk, and the pipes were on the expensive side, and the selection was fairly limited. That said, the guy there was amazing, and the store was fairly small, so in the bigger store (570 lexington) is probably great.
Rereading that it comes off as a bit harsh, but the store I went to was actually a good one (I had thought it would be a lot better since I thought it was the main one), and exceptional given how tiny it was, so I'm sure the 570 Lex one is amazing, I just wouldn't go to the other sattelite stores first. |

Re: Pipe Stores in Manhattan?
I know its a little off topic but if your intrested in a little romance with your wife (if she dosnt mind a room full of smoke) go to The Carnegie Club you can bring your own cigars there and pay $10 to sit there, they alow you to smoke pipes as well. And they have a full bar.
