is it cool to store/cellar your tobacco in household jars? baby food, pickle, jam etc...

or am i being a cheap ass and i should just go to walmart and pick up a dozen mason jars.

Okay by me. I like to put aromatics in similarly scented glass jelly jars. Actually, it's not the jar that retains an odor, it's the rubber/plastic liner in the lid. An added plus is that it's easy to tell one jar from another. I should add that I've only been smoking pipes for a few months so I will not vouch for long term storage, but jelly keeps for years unopened so it seems logical that air exchange between inside the jar and the outside air is essentially zero.
I would personally recommend against the pickle jar idea unless you really like your tobacco to smell like dill and vinegar. And, by the way, there is nothing wrong with being a cheap-ass. Where i live it's considered a virtue by many!
