A pain in the posterior pipe!
I have finally finished the pipe and it was a pain in the proverbial i can assure you. As Paul will testify it all went wrong from the word go, it consumed a whole day at Pauls workshop (i can usually make 2 pipes in a day that i then stain and finish at home, this took a whole day and hours at home) The first block drilled had a massive flaw in the bowl and had to be scraped, this bowl was much better but still had a flaw on the outside hence it is rusticated. The stem went worng more than once during production and took much longer than expected and the first rustication didnt look right so i had to rusticate it all over again and in the process rusticated my finger (literally blood sweat and tears went into this pipe!) However at long last it is finished!! The shape is a Lovat but the bowl is almost a chimney and is a Skater shape so its a nice mix of styles. The black rustication is really set off by the imitation ivory ring and black stem i think, it was intended to be a dress style pipe that has a classic art deco design and i think i have managed to achieve that. Just as a little contrast i decided to leave the Rim smooth and it has a natural oiled finish with a satin sheen, i think this works well with the shiny Coal style rustication. After all the effort im really pleased with this pipe, and i think it was worth the effort! |

Re: A pain in the posterior pipe!
Well FWIW I think the end result looks very cool! I agree that the contrast on it is very nice.

Re: A pain in the posterior pipe!
Nice pipe. Its a great touch too that the bowl rim is natural as opposed to the rustication. It actually reminds me of a ser jac that I have. Nice work, congrats

Re: A pain in the posterior pipe!
Very nice job on the pipe. I was going ask if it was for sale, when I saw that it was sold.
The rim contrast is a very nice touch. If is smokes as well as it looks, someone is going to have a great addition to their rotation.
