Kids say the darndest things...

My son was watching me pack my new L'Anatra that I got in a trade with Marty Pulvers at Pulver's Briar and he asked how many I had of that particular brand. When I told him, he asked why I didn't trade some of my other brands to get more. Now, many moons ago, I was out to gather every L'Anatra that I could get my hands on and create a large collection. I love the styling of most of these pipes and the drilling and finishing is always beyond perfect.
They are excellent pipes but along the way I lost focus. I gathered some pipes, spent good money on them to boot, that were nowhere near my intended goal. Some were on a whim, some are just phenomenal pipes, IMHO.
Thanks to my son, who often has focus problems of his own when it comes to school work, I am now taking a very careful and calculated look at the pipes that I own and weighing them out in importance.
Just wanted to post this to see how many of you do the same and possibly to give some of you an idea to "theme" your pipe collecting. Focusing on a specific collecting goal sometimes helps with the dreaded PAD.....I should stress the word "sometimes"

Well, I've come to the conclusion that the only briar's I'll buy now are straight Bulldogs, just because I love the way they feel in my hand, and they're usually just big enough for the smokes that I enjoy. Plus I finally learned how to get them to sit up straight in my teeth.

I too realized that a fine collection should have some focus to it, or you could end up spending a lot of money on pipes that fall out of favor quickly.

Right now my Dunhill focus is narrowed to Patent Canadian Roots and Shells.

My Danish focus is on obtaining the finest examples of just a few artisans.

And my Roush collection. Have a few pipes that Larry has yet to make that I would like to obtain to round out my Roush's
