I hope anyone who is reading this will not allow themselves to be duped out of trying Escudo for this reason. Old Salt, rub it all out in a bowl and then put it back in the tin and maybe you'll feel better.

I guess that me and Vito can keep being fools easily seperated from our money together.
a plan I can stick to.

Waiting for a special time to crack one....maybe during the Chicago Show this year. Cracked one last year at the Show, smoked a few bowls and gifted the tin to Mike Gluker from Briar Blues. This is his all time fav and his eyes popped open when I brought this out.

When I crack one, IHT will get a package shortly after.........
About how old are the Cope tins you have Bruce? I tried a bowl of Escudo Greg had in the 8-10 year old range and it was amazing. Nothing like what I had been exposed to with the newer stuff. Hopefully the current version will eventually age out as nicely, only time will tell.

If it is a case of the older the better, that Cope's must be heaven in a can.

The two 3 1/2 tins are from the 70's I believe (could be earlier). The 50 gram tin is from the mid to late 80's.

If I sit on the tin for a couple years, it will get better, I have a very hard time aging anything.

If I sat on a tin for a couple of years, my butt would hurt.

i think that a 10 year old tin must be the same version as the current. cope's went out of production around 1993. a&c petersen started their production around 1995. though i recently found out about the loads of additives in the current version, it seems to age well.

i thought they took over production in '97?

either way, it seems ultramag is infatuated with my escudo.

That is true, it wasn't Cope's produced, just aged and the oldest Escudo that I had tried. Very good.

you may be in for an amazing experience. i once stored a cope's for ten years, and it was fantastic when smoked. never in my life had anything better than that.

Re: Navy Escudo

I feel that Navy Escudo sets the bench mark for a Virginia/Perique blend. There are better (eg Three nuns original) and there are worse.
I always have trouble aging tins I can never bring myself not to smoke them.
