Re: Navy Escudo

I still have yet to try it... gotta finish my tin of Dunbar first; what did you smoke it in?

Also to add to the discussion, this is pretty much the definitive Va/per today correct?

Re: Navy Escudo

I wouldn't say it is definitive, but it is so well known and widely smoked that once you have an opinion on Escudo you have a reference point from which to weigh other's tastes against your own.

In short, if someone posts that they don't like Escudo - you can ignore anything else they have to say.

Thumbs down Re: Navy Escudo

Also opened my first tin of Escudo, I have to agree it is excellent in aroma, flavor and smokeability,
How ever I can't seem to shake the feeling of being ripped -off
You first see this big round fancy tin, easily double the volume of a Penzance tin. And I sez to myself, " self this is going to be good stuff"
then I open the tin , and it's only 1/3 full the rest is stuffed with paper and air. what a load of crap that is.

it's good but not that good. Save your money and support

???

so, one company puts 50g in a tin and the other puts 2oz, like many, many, many other companies choose to do, and that's greed?
because the size of their tins is different and one just happens to be form fitted around the way the tobacco is presented??

almost every tin i open is stuff with air.

imagine opening an 8oz tin and it's only half full. but it's still 8oz, the size of the tin it comes in isn't what you're paying for.

you could probably fit 2 tins of penzanze inside a newer tin of escudo, but the weight of the contents is what they go by.

hell, save the tins, take the bigger ones to a recycling center - think of it that way, that they're helpin gyou make money.

Re: Navy Escudo

Escudo,

This is most definitely one of the quintessential VaPers out there. Never had the stuff made by Copes - supposely even better - but this is good enough.

Presently, I don't have any open. But, there are a few tins in the cellar.

Re: Navy Escudo

Have you ever bought bulk tobacco - 4oz of PS lux navy takes up about 1/4 the volume of 4oz of PS Optimum...

I guess you never bought a box of cereal, bag of chips or anything else packed by weight and not volume?

Re: Navy Escudo

I have two 3 1/2 ounce tins of Copes, plus a 50 gram tin of "newer" Copes.
Waiting for a special time to crack one....maybe during the Chicago Show this year. Cracked one last year at the Show, smoked a few bowls and gifted the tin to Mike Gluker from Briar Blues. This is his all time fav and his eyes popped open when I brought this out.

When I crack one, IHT will get a package shortly after.........

I guess I might just be in a fussy mood today because I usually just read stuff like this and go on with a chuckle, but the above is one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever seen about pipe tobacco. I hope anyone who is reading this will not allow themselves to be duped out of trying Escudo for this reason. Old Salt, rub it all out in a bowl and then put it back in the tin and maybe you'll feel better.
