need a stem

Today I had a Stanwell zebrano w/ no stem come in, I knew it didn't have a stem when I got it but now it's here and I need one. Other then sending it off to someone who makes stems is there a way I can get a replacement one? I was wondering if stanwell had replacements I could buy.

Re: need a stem

I am not sure about the Stanwell replacements but there are a couple of great options for getting a new, custom cut stem.

Boswells would do an acryllic stem for $24, plus their turnaround for this work is 2-3 days!

There is also Precision Pipe Repair, which is getting rave reviews. See GL Pease's site for an in-depth review on getting a new stem from George at PPR. However, his waiting list is about 1 month.

Excellent info!

I picked up a large bore, sweet smoking Smokercraft that needs a serious stem refitting and will look into this very thing!

Re: need a stem

Mark Tinsky does great work, he's put new stems on 3 of my pipes. turn-around varies on how busy he is. last one took about 1 week.

Re: need a stem

The churchwarden stem on my Stanwell HCA III broke some time back. (Don't ask, but NEVER twist the stem while pipe is still warm!) I had purchased it from FF Piber, emailed them and had a replacement stem in hand about a week after my first contact. They just took the model name, specified no filter, and sent one out without having to send them my pipe. They carry a ton of stanwells and may be able to get a replacement stem out quickly. You might give Frenchy an email as well. Since Stanwells are machine made (I believe) it may be pretty easy to just get a replacement rather than having a new stem fitted.
