johnnyflake said i should try a meer, i've been shopping around for a few days and i kinda like this one, only thing that bothers me about is this looks front end heavy and i'll have to put finger prints all over it while smoking, is that a big deal or a pipe myth anyway? so what do you all think?

Re: thinking about this one...

i think you need to re-investigate the depth of that pipe chamber to make sure that's the size/shape bowl you'd want.
it looks really cool, like they were headed for a "banker" shape and got tired of carving and said, "**** it, lets make it smooth."
very shallow bowl depth, decent width - would you get anything to burn in it?

as far as the fingerprints go, i've never had an issue with touching the 3 meers i've owned and ending up with prints... never had that happen.
i have been stupid enough to want to scratch off some lint on the bottom of the pipe, ended up putting scratches into the pipe - it's very soft.

yeah, i noticed the bowl depth, or lack of it, that doesn't bother me.

i don't know i've been starring at that pipe for the last 15 minutes and my gut is telling me to move on, i'll see how i feel about it in the morning.

Re: thinking about this one...

At 3oz that thing is monstrously heavy, especially for a meer. That, and the shape, means I really can't see that thing being comfortable to smoke, since you'll neverbe able to hold it in your jaw safely. Then again, its a meer, so its fragile, and you'd probably only be smoking it when sitting somewhere anyways, so it might not be a big dealif you're a smoker who doesn't liek to hold his pipes in his mouth.

If you can deal with having to always have it in hand, then go for it, since it is a beauty, and pretty cheap for something of that caliber (assuming its not got some hidden defects, and its block, but SP is a great site).

That said, what do y'all think about http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/es...duct_id=35546?

The plateau is... interesting, not sure if I like it or not. Well, that and the picture is pretty washed out, so you can't see the pipe itself much.

Re: thinking about this one...

yeah, it would be a pipe only for the house, i cant smoke that thing in public!

the one you linked wasn't bad, glad it wasn't a claw or a naked lady or some other fantasy dungeon and dragons style meer that seems to be the only thing on most of these sites.

Re: thinking about this one...

If you're good with the bowl size it's a very cool looking meer.

I agree. I've been wondering if they have a school or correspondence course where they teach anyone how to carve all those well-known shapes "Now you too can be a meer carver in just six months of study"

Nick,

That a very unique looking design and you should go with what you like. however, IMHO, that's a very heavy pipe at 81.65g and the bowl is very shallow, allowing only for short smokes. If those two issues, are not a problem for you, then I say go for it!!!

Length: 6.86 in./174.24 mm. Weight: 2.88 oz./81.65 g.
Bowl Height: 1.40 in./35.56 mm. Chamber Depth: 1.10 in./27.94 mm.
Chamber Diameter: .85 in./21.59 mm. Outside Diameter: 2.27 in./57.66 mm.

Re: thinking about this one...

A Brother from another forum recommended this site to me http://www.meerschaum.com/instock.htm Prices are fairly cheap, quality is good and lots of nice shapes. Not many tacky designs like the previously mentioned naked ladies and wizards etc.
