Just started Smoking Pipes.

Just started smoking pipes a few months back and I've got to say, I think I'm just as hooked on pipes as I am cigars. A friend of mine let me try his pipe and it got me hooked. I ran out the next week and picked up a cheaper pipe and some mac baren Danish tobacco. Now I just alternate between my pipe and my cigars.

Since that first tin of tobacco I've picked up a mac baren dark twist and bought 4 used pipes at a antique store and had new mouthpieces made for them.

Any suggestions for a newbie as far as tobacco, tobacco storage, what brands are higher quality. The only info I have comes from what my B&M manager tells me.

Re: Just started Smoking Pipes.

I'd start with the newbie sampler trade here: http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...ighlight=women

Here's another website with lists of baccy and it's category that I've found really useful--these are basically the staples of each category.
http://agingfaq.nocturne.org/touchstones.php#virginias

On here, I've heard the rave for Penzance (english blend), Escudo (VaPer), and Full Virginia Flake (Va) more often than any other. I'm not too knowledgable on the aromatics, but what I would decide first would be whether you like aromatics better or non-aromatics, cause it would allow you then to figure out where to go from there--aromatics: determine which flavors you want; non-aromatics: latakia, oriental, VaPer, and the tons of blends between these types of tobacco.

Lost of info here http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13541

and of course the best place to learn about the different brands and blends is http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/index.cfm

the blend i would recomemd is samuel gawith squadron leader. a mild/medium english blend of virinia, latakia, and turkish. i love the stuff.
