Meerschaum fell out........

I bought an Estate pipe off of eBay that was listed as being Meerschaum lined. It's a Coronation, made in Italy, nice little briar. I ended up with $16 invested in it with shipping and all so I didn't feel too bad. But when it arrived I found that the Meerschaum was coming apart in the bottom of the bowl and figured the pipe was pretty much junk. I contacted the seller (dlsselph46) and she proceeded to get her drawers all in a wad, got offended, and in the end refunded my money and told me to keep the pipe.

So what do you think I did? Correct! I carefully chipped up and excavated the remaining lining and I'm gonna try to smoke the pipe. Has anyone else ever tried this? The bowl is pretty thin now but I figure if I can ever get cake to build up it may be okay. What do you all think?

your got to keep the pipe and your money back...I call that a bloody great result! You never know...a little bit of tinkering and practice and you might get a good smoker outta her yet.

I have to say it didn't smoke too bad. The bowl is huge though! I think I can get 1/8 of an ounce in it

I think you did the right thing. People shouldn't be selling broken goods on Ebay, listed "as is" or not. Hope she got her panties unknotted

ps - they'd have been even more wadded if she found out you'd copped a $15,000 museum piece for a sawbuck.

Well, it's happened again. I may not buy any more estate meerschaum lined pipes off of eBay. Today I got a Tinderbox in and the liner is missing out of the bottom of the bowl. If anyone else here shops for pipes on eBay ask before bidding on one to avoid the mistake I've now made twice.........
