Blending with perique
Recently I bought an ounce and a half of perique (an ounce from one place, half from another, just to compare the two) for blending, but I haven't realy gotten around to it yet. Basically, I'm just looking for any tips: what blends have you tried that work with perique (CC and some local bulk burleys seem worth trying), and how much perique is a good idea (10% is what I've heard in some places, but that seems real light). Also, is it a good idea to leave the tobacco in long strands (the ounce amount I've got is in two inch long strings), or cut it up to real short lengths to have it more evenly distributed. Also what do people think about adding perique to blends with it in there already? The thought hadn't really occured to me til I started writing this, but what happens when you add more perique to some escudo?

Out for Much Needed Smoke

Re: Blending with perique
I've learned (as in the other topic on this) it's great for livening up any english blend, or providing some fullness to one lacking body. As for the Va/Pers, I'm leaving as soon as I click post on this to go to the b&m and try some out!
![]() Oh and as for the long strands... I wondered about this too so I took about half of what I was adding to a blend and pinched it in half as best I could, then just threw in the rest as is. Other times I've left it as is and just went with it. Both worked fine for me, the only thing I might venture to guess may be leaving them a bit longer could cause them to burn slower which would definately be benificial in my opinion. The main thing I found was leaving my new "blend" sealed up tightly for a week or two made a difference to help the flavors mix more than anything. |

Re: Blending with perique
I am just getting into this tobacco so I'm not at the point of doing my own blending yet. It sounds to me (and this is just my opinion) but a lot of this is subjective, and it depends on your taste. smoke you a bowl and see what happens, only then can you determine how much to add to a blend, then the rest is experimental. Above all smoke what you like in what you like.
