Rubber Pipe Bit Tip
I struggled everytime I went to put one of these on a new pipe. Just got a new pipe the other day and was talking to my wife about how much of a pain in the butt that it is to try and stretch these things on. She stated, "Why don't you heat it up with my hair dryer and it will make it more pliable."
Genius idea!!! The pipe bit went on like hot butter. I had to let it cool for a few minutes after I got it on there though. PS.....Don't tell my wife that she had a great idea!!

Re: Rubber Pipe Bit Tip
I don't think I'd use these on my Vulcanite stems, but I'm sure they'd work well on my acrylic stems....is there any 'taste' from rubber tips...and...how often do you take them off for cleaning?

Re: Rubber Pipe Bit Tip
i've had nothing but good results using them on stems of either type-b4 i use 'em, i either throw 'em in w/the dishes to be washed or wipe down w/isopropyl alcohol, don't notice any rubber taste-the texture takes a few smokes to get used to-after each smoke i wipe 'em off just like i would wipe the tip if they weren't there-when i do an alcohol cleaning every other wk on the pipes, i take 'em off to wash-since i really clench a pipe, they're the greatest thing since sliced bread to me, no more chewn thru stems-you can also use heat shrink tubing (for protecting wire splices)

Re: Rubber Pipe Bit Tip
I'm with you. They're waaaaaaay too thick for my liking. Now I use "plasti-dip"

Re: Rubber Pipe Bit Tip
I have a rubber bit on one of my pipes (one I bought from slow triathlete coincidentally). Most days I can't 'taste' it but some days I think I can. It seems like the more I slobber the more likely I am to taste the bit. I do like being able to clamp down a little on the pipe and not having to worry about teeth marks though.

Re: Rubber Pipe Bit Tip
While not a big fan of the tip, I have used them from time to time. It depends on the weight of the pipe in my teeth as to whether I'll use one or not. As for cleaning I always pull them off and drop them in my vodka cleaning solution I use when I'm doing a thorough cleaning. They come out tasting great and as long as they are natural rubber the vodka won't attack them.
I do feel they crank up my saliva glands though. Hey, to each his own ![]()
