Pipe/tobacco for fast puffing?

Hi,

9 times out of 10 I like to sit back and smoke my pipe nice and slowly in a relaxed manner experiencing all the different nuances of the tobacco choice.

But there are also times when I'd like to smoke a pipe like I smoke a cigar...with reckless abandon. I'd like to puff away as I please not worrying about burning out my pipe or my tongue.

Is there any way to accomplish this with a particular pipe/tobacco? If not, I'll pull out my cheap cigars to satisfy this desire...but I'd love to be able to do this with a pipe if possible.

Thanks for any advice!!

i'd try a burley tobac maybe, something like PA, CH, MacB's golden xtra-the only problem i think you might run into is overheating the bowl & maybe burnout-might be ok in a meer?

I do this a lot with SG Flakes. I cut them into as small pieces as possible then rub them out and if its fairly thin and loose you can burn a bowl in no time at all. Heat's not an issue if I pack loosely.

Use a cob, if it burns out. Who cares?

Pelican seems to burn quite fast for me. Also, if I over dry something (easily to do with a dehydrator), it burns much faster, regardless of what it is.

Pack some Carter Hall in a cob and you're set. For me, it's an infallible combination.

Re: Pipe/tobacco for fast puffing?

I second the burely recommendation. When I tried out my first bowl of Butternut Burley I smoked it in a cob and intentionally went puff crazy on it to see if I could get it to bite. Well, not only didn't it bite it still tasted great from beginning to end even with all that abuse. It's also the hottest I've ever gotten a cob.
