Full-Bodied Virginias

Hey Guys,

As I've been experimenting with differrent tobaccos lately. I've found I really enjoy Virginias and English blends but I had a curious question about Virginias.

The Virginia blends I've tried have been on the medium/mild side of things. Is this a charecteristic of Virginias? I have not seen or tried any that were marketed as full-flavored and I tend to enjoy a more full-tobacco tobacco in general. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

Secondly, are all virginias a product of Virginia (atleast originally)? This condfuses me. My Rattray's Old Gowry is a Virginia blend, blended in Scotland, and a product of Germany

Re: Full-Bodied Virginias

Hi DrStrangelove

Virginians are usually on the lighter end of the taste spectrum. A couple with a bit body are(IMHO): Hal o' the wind and Marlin Flake both by Rattray, Scottish Flake by Robert McConnell, and Briar Fox by Cornell & Diehl.

Virginians are grown in West Virginia, Virginia, and the Carolinas. I'm not sure if it all started in Va. or if the term has expanded to cover most light, sweet leaf grown in the general area.

Shoot me a PM with your address and I'll send you a couple of heavier Va.s to try.

P.S. You might consider dedicating a pipe to your favorite Va. Briar tends to hold tobacco flavor very well. Nothing like a good latakia leftover to cover the sublety of a good Va.

Bad mental image of Dr. Strangelove trying to stuff Frank in a pipe.
