Newbie to Pipes here.

Just wanted to say hello. I'm a long time Havanphile, but have recently picked up the pipe. So far I've been smoking on some frog morton and a Lat blend from the local B&M. I'm very anxious to try new tobbacos and find that sweet spot where it is all just right. Thanks for all the great threads, I've learned alot just from reading the backlogs.

Re: Newbie to Pipes here.

Well you've started out on the right foot with Frog Morton. If you like it, try some Squadron Leader or Penzance. I've also found that the orientals with latakia are along the same lines and have a little more "spice." If you want something sweet, try virginas; something a little more mellow, go with burley blends. Jump around on the threads; there's a great pipe NST you should hope into and those guys will set you up!

Welcome, emind! I think you will find, as I did, that piping is a nice counterpoint to the cigar.

P.S. The slope is just as slippery, beware!

Re: Newbie to Pipes here.

Thanks fellas....So far the pipe fills a great spot for me, that time you want a smoke, but don't have time for a stogie. I really enjoy the Latakia strength, but I'm not so sure about the flavor yet....I'm thinking about trying out Dunhill early morning pipe, for something a little different

Re: Newbie to Pipes here.

Welcome to the forum, as you've already figured out you can learn alot here by going back thru the threads and reading old posts.

The pipe is a wonderful and relaxing past time. Compared to cigars it can be far more affordable unless you aquire that terrible PAD and cant stop buying new pipes and tobaccos, lol. But once you do have a rotation of say 5 to 7 pipes it's relatively affordable if not cheap compared to cigars or those icky cigarettes.

To get your rotation started don't forget the humble corn cob pipe. It's actually an excellent smoke for $5 and will have you started faster than trying to buy a half dozen briars all at once.

Re: Newbie to Pipes here.

Some pipes are very good but some aren't.
Some pipe tobacco is very good and some isn't.

It's fun sorting it all out with nice folks who have similar interests. Welcome.
