FM and EMP where to go from here????

Hey all I've been smoking frog morton and Early Morning Pipe and am really enjoying them, but would like something with a little more kick. There are so many varieties of baccy out there that I feel lost....Please help. Im interested in everything but aromatics. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Re: FM and EMP where to go from here????

From FM and EMP, I would try Samuel Gawith Squardon Leader and Esoterica Penzance. Both are english blends, and the penzance is a little heavy. I've found another blend that really works for me, Butera Pelican. It's got some oriental baccy in it to give it a little more kick.

I'd also say try a Virginia Perique blend. It's dramatically different from the classic englishs, but it's worth a try. Try Escudo, or Peter Stokebye Luxury Navy Flake or PS luxury Bullseye flake.

I'd also check out some of the reviews on here, where you may find something else you'd like to give a try.

I'll let everyone else chime in, and just give you a couple. McClelland's Frog Morton On The Bayou is a little step up in nic. Dunhill Nightcap is a big step up in nic.

There are plenty more with more nic. I just gave a couple that would be familiar.

If you wanna kick, Nightcap, I also rate Black Mallory, also Red Repparee is an oriental more like EMP, but better. Not many rate Pete's Old Dublin but I do....Dub

Re: FM and EMP where to go from here????

I just cracked a tin of EMP, and have been smoking 965 - the 965 is very similair, with more latakia. I have not had nightcap, but my understanding is that NC is to 965 as 965 is to EMP.

Re: FM and EMP where to go from here????

I'll be including some Black Mallory, Red Rapparee, Squadron Leader, 965, and a couple more in your end of the "NST for Pipes". Rattray's Black Mallory is one of my favorites right now, along with 965 and Nightcap. Good stuff.

Re: FM and EMP where to go from here????

guess i'm the odd ball that thinks NC is weaker than EMP/965

i'd try SG commonwealth mixture, Rattray's 7 reserve & 3 noggins, balkan sasieni-if ya really want a kick, try a SG or GH rope or twist

Re: FM and EMP where to go from here????

I may have to give them all a try again after reading this. I think I liked the 965 the best, but for the most part, I couldn't tell a difference b/w the EMP, 965, or NC.

Re: FM and EMP where to go from here????

I really have been enjoying the EMP like I said above. To my palate it is a very complex smoke. Woody, creamy and rich. Occasionally I even get some citrusy flavors (not tounge bite), kind of lemony...a great smoke just a little weak in the Nic department.

Re: FM and EMP where to go from here????

I can't say I like EMP too much. I can't really get over the unlit aroma (I believe it would be "barnyard" to a wine taster), but the few times I have smoked it its been ok, but nothing exceptional. Then again I don't really smoke many orientals, so I probably just haven't developed a good palate for it.

If you like EMP, you should try Nightcap. Deffinitley has more kick, and its amazing. Truly one of my favorites, and one of the tobaccos that pushed me down the pipe slope.

I love that "barnyard" smell in the morning.
