I haven't had a case of MacBitten's Danish dynamite killing my tongue in a while. They should change their logo from the lions holding a shield to a rabid dog foaming at the mouth gnawing on a tongue!
Coming to the end of a tin, so I popped open a new can of MacBaren's Vanilla Cream Flake, and put it aside to "detoxify" for a week, as I do with ALL MacBitten tins. However, dullard that I am, I grab a flake out of the wrong tin - the brand new one. Air it out but ain't going to work for a fresh flake - loaded the pipe, light and drive off. Five minutes later I have to pull over and get down to wipe my tongue off on the sidewalk AAARGH. Here I am with a band aid on my tongue staring at the box that just arrived from smokingpipes with a dozen new tins to try. McClelland, GL Pease, Gawith, oh my. All dressed up and no tongue to go with ![]()

You're killing me Ron
The only REAL MacBitten (I love that) I've ever tried to get thru a whole tin was, in fact, the first tin I ever bought....Mixture. About 1/2 thru I sealed it up and tossed it in the oven at 220 for 4 hours. That actually came out OK

Re: Danish tongue torture
Hey! Now there is an idea, their VA blends do smoke better with DGT stoving (and patience). Maybe not an oven, but leaving a tin on the dashboard of the car for a week may do wonders. Since it will be about that long before I grow a new tongue, it may work out.

Re: Danish tongue torture
Actually I almost recommend smoking a lot of MacBaren when you're still learning your pipe technique. You learn quick what not to do! If you can smoke a MacB product without killing your tongue, you can smoke darn near anything.

Re: Danish tongue torture
How would you know, rookie?
![]() Macbitten's - ![]() I keep hearing about folks liking their Navy Flake but, after a couple of tins of their other tongue-burners, I went on to gentler pastures. I can see where a little stoving of this or burley-blending of that could make a difference but why bother? There are so many other nice things to smoke.

Re: Danish tongue torture
Honestly guys I cant see how MacB got such a reputation for tongue biting. I have never, not from one blend, had tongue bite. Maybey it is because my first tin bought was HH mature VA then other MacBs . *shrug* I guess it realy is a chemistry thing.

Re: Danish tongue torture
I hear ya, I have experienced some tongue bite from the MacB blends. I think it's partially due to my aggressive puffing but I agree that their blends tend to bite more then the others I've tried.

![]() With sufficient "airing out" and sensible puffing, some of the MacB's are pretty good. I still enjoy a few of their blends, the infernal Vanilla Flake being one of them.
