Your opinion please

Only if you have one

I'm intrested in buying a pipe that looks diffrent, diffrent I mean not the norm,
For an example I found these two that on a site some of you suggested.
If I'm buying it I want it to have some quality as well, somthing I can smoke and not regret buying. my question is is Brenton a good company, and what do yiu think about these two pipes?????

http://www.iwanries.com/Benton_Churc..._P1184C100.cfm

I happen to like the curved stem better if I'm talking about looking diffrent,
if anyone has any comments from experience or any pipes in that idea that look better and maybe a litle more solid I'll apriciated it.

Thanks

Re: Your opinion please

I have two Churchwardens, a Savinelli and a Chadwick. They look awesome, but they don't smoke well unless you are patient. They both "gurgle" unless you really go slow. Of the Churchwardens you are considering take note of the wall thickness of the bowls and go with the thicker one if you've got it narrowed down to couple of different offerings.

If you want something "different" (not sure what that means) consider a Rhodesian, a Zulu, Canadian (a different take on the standard Billiard),......... there's a lot to choose from. Here's a list of shapes that may help you identify what appeals to you. http://www.aspipes.org/shapes/shapes.html

Re: Your opinion please

Personally I'd picked up the under 40$ pipe just to give it a try. That isnt a ton of coin to drop on a pipe ( in my opinion ) that way if ya dont like it, I am sure many brothers would be more then willing to take it off your hands. And if ya like how the pipe smokes, dropping a little more coin on a higher end one would be worth the investment. That is how I would approach a pipe such as the ones you showed. I myself have never smoked a churchwarden, and with that being said I would approach it as I said above.

I know I posted without owning one, but much like yourself I am interested in a similar pipe.

Re: Your opinion please

Lightly packed with a fairly dry tobak, and at a slow pace they both do fine. If you're a voracious puffer, fond of aromatics, or clumsy this isn't the pipe for you. I broke the tenon off of the Chadwick (boy was I pissed) but fixed it. No one would ever be able to tell it happened. These pipes are delicate so keep this in mind.

Lest you think I don't like Churchwardens, I assure you I do. They just aren't for everybody and if you're just starting out I'd recommend a more traditional style to learn on. (Yes, they do make them look cool in Lord of the Rings)

Re: Your opinion please

I think so far as churchwardens go I would look for something where the stem angles downward and the bowl faces up. I don't understand a pipe (churchwarden) where the chamber is nearly impossible to see while lighting nor do I understand why anyone would want a straight stem on a CW. Just my opinion

Cool Re: Your opinion please

I agree that a Churchwarden where you can't see the bowl to light it, makes for a poor design. I wondered if I was the only person that had this problem. Obviously that's not the case!

Personally I wouldn't pick a pipe design just because I wanted for it to stand out, or to make a "hey, look at me" statement. Pick a good pipe of a classic design that will work well! If you want people to notice you while you're smoking it wear a pink tutu. Or a hat with a big feather in it. Maybe you can smoke while riding a unicycle, I dunno. If all you're in the market for is an inexpensive unique pipe, that's exactly what you'll end up with. It likely won't smoke very well and everyone can be impressed with your ability to try to keep it lit, or the priceless look on your face when you swallow that load of juice that's been collecting in the bottom of the bowl.

Keep it simple. I've found a lot of pipes on eBay that smoke very good and after a good cleaning present very well. If someone else likes the way they look, that's of little importance. I'm only in this to satisfy me.......
