I have a corncob that gets smoked almost as much as my Meer. Almost. My meer is my favorite pipe and certainly gets used the most.

I only have a couple of cheapies with tight airways so they don't smoke so nicely. I had wanted to get a more expensive one this year (baki pipes) but things are pretty tight. Maybe before the end of the year

I do not smoke cobs all the way down - where the stem enters the bowl will char, and as you use the pipe this is less noticeable, but still present.

Meers are very clean smoking; however, I am always concious of the pipe... I don't do anything else when smoking a meer but pay attention to what I am doing. Meers may not be that fragile, bit they seem fragile.

Cobs on the other hand, I work on cars, shovel snow, play golf, etc/

If you like meers but are worried about how fragile they are, get a meer lined briar. I have a couple and they smoke almost as good as a pure meer without being so fragile.

I am totally happy that cobs are working for you. Myself, if I owned a briar that didnt smoke any better than a cob, it would disappear to the bottom of my misc. pipe drawer never to be seen again.
