McClelland's and a couple other Q's

I want my local B&M to think about selling McClelland's tobacco, because there seems to be a lot of good blends I want to try, but can't really get other wise but through the internet and I am an impatience man and want to be able to just hop down to the store and grab the tin when I have the money.

So can anyone point me in the right direction in finding him information so he can inquire about ordering some?

EDIT: I found some info on pipeshowonline.net to request a brochure, but it says to put the info of the local pipe shop and stuff. I don't know If it would be cool of me doing this, I have to ask his permission.

My new question though is can I order the brochure as just a normal consumer not a store owner and skip that step and have a catalog sent to myself anyways?

These Q's have been burning in the back of my mind and I figure I'd ask them here so there was no need for another thread.

1.) What kind of tobacco is Peterson's Irish Oak? I got a brand new big bowl pipe I haven't used yet, but I don't want it to be just for IO, I want to be able to smoke other like blends in it as well. Especially when I am not 100 percent on if I like this tobacco or not yet.

2.) I asked this in the other thread, but wanted to try for a more rounded answer. How important is the boiling the jars step for putting tobacco in it? I just wanted to make sure I didn't ruin any tobacco by skipping this step and putting the tobacco straight in it.

I only cellar tins but I've heard (here, there, elsewhere) - first, boil the jar in water BEFORE you cellar, not after. OK, obvious. There appear to be two reasons for this.
1) Kill any mold that may be lurking in the jar, just waiting to gnaw on your precious baccy.
2) Make the jar hot, along with the air in the jar. After drip drying for a few minutes load up that baccy and jam that lid on. As the jar and air inside cools, it contracts and creates a negative pressure that gives a "popping" seal.

I also heard that one should coat (hot) paraffin wax over the lid and lip after sealing. This makes a better seal, albeit messy.

I'm not looking so much to cellar away tobacco at the moment, but this was actually helpful cause I want to do so at some point. I was mainly wondering if you had to do this if you just wanted to transfer pipe tobacco to the jars to keep it fresher then if you leave it in the tins, cause I noticed some of my tins, although sealed, where still drying out somewhat. my Navy Flake became totally non-smokable because it became bone dry.

I store open tins in jars. I don't boil first. I just wash them with dishwashing soap, rinse well and dry with paper towels. Works well for me.

1 - IO is in the VA/Per area.

2 - Never boiled/heated or even thought about it. I have jars with 3-4 years on them and they have a tight (always have at least some vacuum, sometimes a lot) seal. Moisture content is right on the money.

I checked TR first, like I normally do, but the consensus was some seemed confused as to what it was. Most said it was Va/pa, but I recall reading a few that said other wise. Figured I double check here to see CS members thought it was.

smokinmojo- My jars are very tight as well and work well. Just I had read that you should boil them first and I didn't read that until after I transfered my tobacco. Good to know that yours are ok, and my seem to be so far too.

It's cool. I am always willing to accept help, even if it's info I all ready know. And besides, who knows, if a newbie see this thread before any others and discovers TR.com thanks to your post, you helped one more person. either way, it's all good.

True, true. The Nick kick can't be any worse then most full bodied cigars though, right? So far I have only smoked smallish to normal sized bowls and it hasn't done anything to me so far.

Once opened, a tin/can/pack will not close air tight again. After a few months (or weeks, if you brutalized the lid opening it) the baccy will dry out. I prefer to throw the entire (opened) tin into a large ziploc, that seems to slow drying somewhat.

You can always re-hydrate the dryed out stuff - see other threads for a myraid of hydra options.
