When was the balkan sobranie discontinued?
How many different blenders produced it?
Ive seen 50g, 100g, 200g, and pouches. When did they stop making the Tins?
Ive heard the pouches are the same as the tins, and ive heard the pouches are different than the tins.

can anyone clarify and or give a timeline?
Ive got some tins and pouches and i have no idea what year these things are from.. id like to get atleast a ballpark idea...

Oh, and when was john cotton discontinued...and how many blenders produced it? ive seen 2 different kinds of tins, are they 2 different blenders? or the same?

Nope, I'll take the blame for that. OP: did you find your answer?

From what I recall, Balkan Sobranie was discontinued in 1996. There was only one producer of Balkan Sobranie and that was "Sobranie of London". I am reasonably sure of the above, however, I am not sure of the following, but I believe the tins were discontinued sometime between 1986 and 1990, and that is when the pouches were introduced. I believe the blend stayed exactly the same, going from the tin to the pouch.

Note: In 2004 or 2005, a very limited number of Pouches of Balkan Sobranie were produced for release in Japan and a few European Countries. I not sure which European Countries it was released in, but it was not released in the UK! The pouches released in Japan were printed in Japanese. They appeared briefly in the B&Ms of Japan and wherever in Europe, and then simply disappeared within weeks after their release.

I have no idea about the John Cotton blend.

Re: discontinued blends

As regards Dunhill, I have recently discovered that a nearby newsagent, which sells a small range of pipes and pipe tobaccos, still had 3 tins of old Dunhill Virginia Flake, not 'Light Flake'. Very fortunate...

Re: discontinued blends

thanks for the answer johnny..
Still looking for the john cotton answer.. I dont know much about the blend. I just know i like it, and its hard to find I was able to snag some from ebay at a really good price, id just like to figure out the dates on the Tins..
Id also like to find out if the blend has ever changed manufacturers or if one kind is preferred to another.
John cotton is right up there with Balkan Sobranie in my book.. i may even like it more.. i just wish i knew more about it.. but info is hard to come by about the blend.
