discontinued blends

Quick trivia question.

When was the balkan sobranie discontinued?
How many different blenders produced it?

Ive seen 50g, 100g, 200g, and pouches. When did they stop making the Tins?
Ive heard the pouches are the same as the tins, and ive heard the pouches are different than the tins.

can anyone clarify and or give a timeline?
Ive got some tins and pouches and i have no idea what year these things are from.. id like to get atleast a ballpark idea...

Oh, and when was john cotton discontinued...and how many blenders produced it? ive seen 2 different kinds of tins, are they 2 different blenders? or the same?

thanks

I don't know but the answer to your question is here somewhere. Try searching wikipedia. I read last week that Dunhill blends have been discontinued. Anyone else know anything about this?

That is correct... At least that's what I've been reading as well.

Along with Escudo as well. From what I hear, they were actually discontinued some time ago and the supply is just now running out.

Dunhill doesn't actually make them, Orlik manufactured them under the Dunhill name. Before that it was Murray's. In my opinion, the current blends are not really worth stocking up on. That being said, I did order 3 tins of Nightcap, EMP, 965 and Light Flake just for cellaring purposes.

Re: discontinued blends

Just read this off of the pipeandcigars site:

"Important Information about Dunhill Tobaccos: There are rumors flying around about the Dunhill Tobaccos. Some of these include the discontinuation of these fine blends. I have spoken to many industry experts and the overall feeling is that there may be a period of time where inventory is short and pricing may increase. I don't believe, at this point, that the manufacturer is going to stop producing these tobaccos. That being said, the issue is going to be at the distribution level. As I receive more information I will post it here.

In the short term we may have to limit the quantities."

They did increase pricing. It went from $7.70/tin on Friday to $9.00 today.

Re: discontinued blends

Wow, pretty crazy if it's true... aren't these supposed to be some of the more popular blends??

They will probably be re-packaged along with a higher price. The same thing happened to Dunhill cigarettes last year.

Re: discontinued blends

Someone mentioned Escudo is going away? Really? Anyone have more info?

I noticed that smokingpipes has been out of Escudo for a month, after I took their last few tins.

Re: discontinued blends

There's a stockpile of Escudo located in the midwest at an undisclosed location. I have heard the scary mean bastage that has it all likes to stack the tins up and make a fortress. He then proceeds to take pot-shots anyone trying to invade aformentioned fortress.

I wish now that I had held onto all the tins I had.

I bought 20 tins from them on Friday. So they had it for a moment at least. 4noggins still has some priced at $9.99/tin. I am up to 53 tins so I should be able to ween myself off of it slowly if it is discontinued. If not, I will have enough to age for a while.
