McClelland tins
I went into a Tinderbox today to kill some time and I found a tine of Frog Morton On the Town. I usually don;t buy from a shop because of the markup but i noticed the tin was from 2006 so i figured i could justify the extra money.
My question is which number is the batch number or is there any way of telling what month the tin was made in. I realize i could probably find the answer but I'm a lazy SOB. thanks---Nick |

Re: McClelland tins
Their is no month on the tin code.
For example: 311303 for McClelland Dark Star 31 is product code, 13 is the batch for that year, 03 is the year (2003) it was tinned. |

Re: McClelland tins
Is there anyway of finding out when that batch was made in the year.

Re: McClelland tins
Not sure about that. My guess is not, but...you'll have to find that out yourself you... "lazy SOB"!

Re: McClelland tins
I have a tin from 2003. I am too reluctant to open aged tins sometimes. I think I need to break that habit at some point or I will die with a collection of 40 year old tins.

Re: McClelland tins
Well this tin of OTT is b/t 1.5 and 2 years old. I figured I would pop it open and try it. It is smoking very cool and dry so far, it's a little soft for me I guess I like a stronger baccy but it's a good all day smoke and good summertime/hot day smoke. It is also has a little sweet note which I was surprised to find.

Re: McClelland tins
I have wondered about this as well.
What is the highest batch # anyone has seen? I have seen upto #18 so obviously they churn out more than one batch per month. A little Sherlock Holms'ing should get a rough pattern for date-ing tins (not "dating" tins, that would be silly). Another observation I have made is that ALL McClelland tins are over 2 years old. And that includes stock that "just came in" to stores. Perhaps they stockpile the tins? Or their distributor is just lazy?

Re: McClelland tins
The guy at the Tinderbox that they made so much that people aren't buying them as fast as they made them. So there is just a huge stockpile of 2 year old tins sitting in a wherehouse aging. He said he found one from 05 the other day and snatched it up real fast.
