Experience, experience, experience; and patience. Practice does not make perfect but you will get closer with practice. Also experiment with different tobaccos draw methods and even pipes until you find what's right for you. Definitely try every different tobacco you can and your bound to find one you like. Have fun and it is a slope.

I just tried the "frank" method of packing for the first time today and I have to say I am sorry I waiting so long. It works wonders. You and other people who are new to smoking should definitely learn and use this method.

Re: Help! - I just cannot seem to enjoy this pipe smoking.

Yes I just had the best bowl I have yet to have using the frank method. I took my time and was thoughtful of all your recommendations when preparing the bowl and it was wonderful. I smoked over half the bowl without a re-light and I enjoyed the taste for once. I noticed at this point it started to get too hot so I put it down and went to fetch my beverage. When I came back I ran a pipe cleaner through the stem to clear up some condensation, emptied some ash out and re-lit. The rest of the bowl was just as good and it did not go out.

When I cleared the pipe of ash I had smoked the dottle and did not have the ashy unpleasant taste I usually have when I am finished.

I believe part of my problem is I just do not like the taste of CB White and I plan on visiting a local tobacco store on my way home from work tomorrow. I just found out about it today and it seems to be the only pipe tobac store within 50 miles.

RJpuffs put up an offer, and I will too. If you want, PM me and I'll send you a few bowls of a couple different things (mostly english, vapers; as I'm not much of aromatics fan myself).

Re: Help! - I just cannot seem to enjoy this pipe smoking.

I think you need to try a variety of pipe tobacco's to find the one that "clicks" with you and fits your tastes. This may take some experimentation but I agree - don't give up!

Find a good pipe store with a good variety of tobaccos. Explain your dilemma to the proprietor and I"m sure he'll let you fill your pipe with a bowl of this and that and try them out.

Are you sure you've got it packed right? The pipe should draw very smoothly with just the slightest restriction - very little but just a bit is all you should have when you draw on the pipe if properly loaded.

Keep us posted on your progress as we all learn from the experiences of others here...

Re: Help! - I just cannot seem to enjoy this pipe smoking.

I bought my first pipe yesterday and I have a problem with the taste. I tried Dunhill Royal Yacht which was too powerful for me and the taste was not to my liking at all. I tried a black cherry blend thinking it would be safer but it just tastes like ash.

I guess I just need to try more tobacco to find one with an enjoyable taste. It sure is relaxing when you get a good bowl going.

Re: Help! - I just cannot seem to enjoy this pipe smoking.

my best tips are, just hang in there, keep practising. Second point, try to stay clear of aromatics and heavy latakia's. Try good quality 'natural' type baccy's as I call them...these are baccy's that are not heavily flavoured and have natural tobacco tastes like, figs and raisins, grassy hay, chocolate, balsamic vinegar. These might be; Scottish Cake, Escudo's, Full Virginia Flake, Old Gowrie, Haddo's Delight, Long Golden Flake, Lux Bullseye etc.

This natural tobacco taste is why (although all different) so many of the above names can be found in the top ten sellers on online shops.

I have a few aromatics laying around opened and rarely used, PM me if you want some samples of "good" aeros.
