Book or the movie? I just finished the book this past week myself and am on to Post Captain. Maritime novels always make me want to break out a pipe. Congrats on mastering the Frank Method -- I have yet to try it.

Hi Ryan.
Good to hear that you got the frank method down to the way you like it. As for me i got used to putting my pipe in the pouch and packing it slowly. Now over the years i have it to how i like it.About how many bowls are you smoking a day.

Re: one of those moments...

it was the movie. i intend to pick up the book at some point but i just have so many damn books ive yet to read. you would think summer would present all the free time to do so, but alas...it does not.

alan, im smoking only about two right now as i only have two pipes. i do enjoy just packing right from the pouch/tin, its easy and quick.

See, I like the Frank, but only in pre-cut ribbon and in some pipes. If I am smoking PS LNF, I am going to fold / roll /stuff - same with Golden slices...

Most MacB Blends I have found to respond well to the Frankish pack.

I've had great luck with the frank method. I've switch to it for all my tobac. Disclamer: havn't tried it with macb vanilla cream yet and must my stuff is ribbon cut.

I'd check out the you tube vids. They are very helpful.

Re: one of those moments...

I suffered through a lot of frustrating smokes early on. I've only been smoking since early April, so I still consider myself a noob.

My successful packing method lately consists of dropping my pipes into the tin and stuffing the bowl full with my pinky. I attribute this successful method to the fact that I've opened up my pipes to flow more air, this making my pipes less "finicky" and less prone to problems related to packing methods.

I have a Firethorn that is a REALLY cheap pipe. It was a horrible puffer I was fixing to relegate to the "rarely break it out" collection until I did a little tuning with my drill bit collection. I put a bowlful of a local pipe shop's blend (Nashville Arcade Shop's Orient Express) in it tonight and had a wonderful experience. It was truly one of those moments..........

Was having a hell of a time until I figured out the Frank method, now no problems.

Where are you from in NH?

Re: one of those moments...

Glad to hear things have finally "clicked" for you. Proper packing of a pipe is crucial to an enjoyable smoke. It takes a bit of practice but once you've got it then you're set for a lifetime of joy and relaxation... Few things are more relaxing than a good smoke out of a favorite old pipe.
