take off the stem

I just bought a nording (will post pictures tomorrow) and i wanted to make sure how to take off the stem before i go muscling it. It doesnt seem to unscrew like my old pipe, does the stem just pull out with some force. I know i could probably just mess with it, but i wanted to be sure before I did anything.

Re: take off the stem

It should just slide out. Hold the shank and lightly twist it to loosen it's grip.

Re: take off the stem

The advice above should work!

I've gotten into the habit of removing my stems by turning them clockwise while gently pullig out...just a habit I guess.

If the stem is really tight, you can put the pipe in the fridge for awhile and that should loosen it up.

Re: take off the stem

you can also use unscented bar soap or beeswax to make it easier to slip in & out

Re: take off the stem

Thanks for the help everyone, I'll try it tonight after I smoke it for the first time. Just got to the beach, I bought some virginia bulls-eye tobacco (I think is what its called, its circular and looks like the end of a haystack), so it should be an enjoyable smoke.
