Re: Worth buying one of these?

I've had a couple of rosewood pipes and I don't recall them being a problem of any sort. Other guys say the same, but they do weigh a little more than briar. I want one of those but until the maker gets them a little closer to 6" length I'll have to pass. A vulcanite stem would be a nice addition too.............

And no stinger. I would pass on that one as well. I am just now coming around to the idea of olive wood pipes.

And that pipe is coming out of China, so who knows about the quality of the pipe. I saw those on ebay and passed. Too rich for my blood (coming out of China)

Re: Worth buying one of these?

personally i'd pass, looks like just a step above the "sanda" pipes from china w/the metal bowl liners, not to mention the $10 shipping is nuts-i'd keep looking, for $20 you can find a better estate pipe that smokes well that doesn't have lead in the finish-look for grabow, medico, yello bole, kaywoodie, mastercraft, savinelli, GBD, comoy.....you get the idea-good luck

Re: Worth buying one of these?

No, I'm pretty set on getting a rosewood pipe regardless of what country it comes from. I survived lead paint chips and leaded gasoline as a child so I think I'll be ok with a chinese pipe. Might not like it in the end but what's $20 anyway?

Re: Worth buying one of these?

I was curious what the final outcome was on this? I was looking at these on ebay also. The pipes look amazing, and the price makes it even better. But, I have all the same doubts as others who have weighed in. Opinions welcome!

Re: Worth buying one of these?

I ordered one. It took like 2 weeks to get it but I happy with it, after a little work. It hangs comfortably in my mouth, nice and light.

I'm going to try smoking it. Wish me luck.

Re: Worth buying one of these?

Understand that while not truly toxic, most varieties of rosewood are classed as irritants, and acute allergic reactions are not that uncommon. Couple the fact that most varieties of rosewood have a high resin content with its irritant classification means it is probably not the wisest of choices to use for pipes. I'll never smoke one. It just ain't worth it.
