Damn....

Try not to be a human bellows when you smoke...puff easier and slower.

I'm a Virginia smoker for the most part and I will admit I burnt my tongue a few times when I picked up the briar but I've learned...

Good luck!

Best treatment for tongue bite is drier tobacco, gentler pipe filling, less tobacco compression and slower puffing.

Hot peppers are very nice with baked beans and cheeseburgers.

Re: Hot peppers for tongue healing?

I would caution the notation that capsaicin has "healing" properties. The study found that the capsaicin relieved the pain, not heal the mouth sores.

Quote:
The nurse and many other test subjects proved that through desensitization of the mucous membrane, capsaicin has provided a substantial amount of pain relief for oral pain sufferers.

In the study "Capsaicin for the Treatment of Oral Mucositis Pain" it is noted:

Quote:
It has been suggested that capsaicin preparations may be effective in controlling oral mucositis pain.

The study concludes that:
Quote:
Thus far, evidence that capsaicin produces symptomatic relief for mucositis pain is encouraging but limited to anecdotal reports and a small case series.

Treatment was a duration of 2-4 days eating 4-6 capsaicin candies a day (the oral pain was abolished in 4 weeks), which is the standard treatment and healing time for most oral pain using over the counter medication, or home remedies that the user finds to be helpful for them self. Though the study was specific for mucositis pain.

Use of Listerine causes the same effect as the capsaicin when used for an oral sore like
canker sores (aphthous ulcers). The Listerine burns as it is swished over the sore, but as the burn subsides so does the pain. After a couple of days, using the Listerine a couple times a day, the pain subsides, and the canker sore heals without the use of more treatment.

The use of Acetaminophen (crushed and mixed with hot water, then swished in the mouth over the sore) on the oral pain is also helpful to relieve canker sores and healing time is quickened. I have found that using Acetaminophen as described above even works for relieving a burned tongue.

My

Good luck and take it easy on that tongue of yours.

Last nite I cleaned my nasal concha with a bulb syringe, it had some positive effects. I felt a little more flavors this morning.

Best cure for tongue bite is a leaf from a Listerine breath freshener "pocket pack" followed by a generous mouthful of ice cold freshly opened Diet Coke......yowza...!

Re: Hot peppers for tongue healing?

I bought some ACT Restoring mouthwash because of it's restorative properties. It's said to remineralizes soft spots (not only on teeth but tongue). It works, takes a day or 2 of not smoking but that's ok, gives me a better chance against cancer then all you 3bowlers

Tetracycline works wonders if you break apart the pill and mix it with water and it's great if you suffer from stomach ulcers as well.

Re: Hot peppers for tongue healing?

My first time smoking a pipe was with a friend - it was also his first time. I couldn't taste my coffee the next morning and was good about 24 hours later. He had a completely numb tongue for over three days! He's given up pipe.

But that's what a brand-new briar, a rookie piper, and a bag of house brand bulk aromatic can do if you smoke 2-3 bowls in a row

Lately If I do get a little bite, it's just a tingle. I've learned to SLOW DOWN, keep a cool dry smoke.

Re: Hot peppers for tongue healing?

Will wonders never cease? Seems to me that a few times I had tongue bite and ate something spicy afterwards the tongue bite went away...I'm guessing here but I think the action might be because capsaicin has a tendency to numb nerve endings...
