Newbie from Tennessee

Hi CS!

I introduced myself on the Newbie Cigar board but wanted to drop an introduction here as well since I'm a pipe smoker too. I've been smoking my pipes for nearly seven years and just recently found myself interested in cigars - which led me to this forum.

I've enjoyed reading many of the threads in the Pipe forum and look forward to 'meeting' you all.

I usually smoke the less aromatic blends from the local B&M - usually the drier blends but I have tried a few aromatic blends like butter-pecan that I've enjoyed. I don't like smoking cherry aromatics at all which is ironic since that's all my grandfather would smoke and I love the smell - no figuring taste sometimes!

Something I've never done though is smoke anything from a tin; I've always gone with the loose tobacco because I can have a good idea beforehand what I'm getting by smelling it first. Nothing against tinned tobacco, just never tried it. Probably should, now that I think about it. Any recommendations?

I only have four pipes because I usually only smoke twice a week, maybe three times. I have a corn cob that I started with, then I moved up to a generic bent-stem briar pipe that I got from GatlinBurlier in Gatlinburg, TN. After a while I bought a nice Mauro Cateni large bowl, straight stem pipe stained a beautiful, deep cherry. Finally I picked up a small (only 3 inches long) curved-stem pipe with a small bowl which I used during a brief 'quit cigarettes by smoking a pipe' phase. I would carry the small pipe and a small pouch of tobacco and take quick smoke breaks with it at work instead of Marlboros.

Eventually I quit all of it cold turkey, then slowly worked back into a pipe without an urge for the cigs. Worked out great for me!

Oh I was thinking you might be closer to the southeast part of the state. I can't remember the last time I dove up there but I think you are about 3 hours or so away.
