Full Steam Ahead.
Directed directly at my tongue that is lol.
So I got my first brair 4 days ago, and since then I have been sucking down the penzance and 965 like its going to sprout wings. My first day I had 6 bowls. I know you are all thinking, 'in the same pipe' why yes sir. And the bottom of the pipe was wet as hell after I was done. I made the little mistake of placing the mouthpiece sort of under my tongue. The next morning it felt as though the skin under there was ready to peel off. It didn't hurt real bad, but felt really weird for a couple days, its still a little like that. I can't wait for my meer to arrive so I don't have to smoke a soggy pipe anymore. The last couple days I have been whaling hard on it but my mouth seems to be building up a resistance. I have also learned how to light and pack better, with fewer relights. I still have a hard time sipping, instead I love them big flavorful clouds of smoke. I'm sure I puff too hard, and on a wet pipe thats even worse, but whats a guy to do. So far I am enjoying myself, haven't even thought about having a cigar. I've got some butternut burley on the way, supposed to be bite free, I figure with that + the meer, I can smoke all day long. |

Re: Full Steam Ahead.
You may want to get a few cob pipes too, they are cost effective and useful if you want to smoke a lot in one day and not over work your more costly pipes.

Re: Full Steam Ahead.
There are blends that are more forgiving (a high burley content) to over-puffing but you probably want to concentrate on slowing down and enjoying the pipe more. Even a forgiving tobacco blend can put the bite on you if you are not careful. An average sized bowl should last at least 45 minutes.
If you don't let the pipe rest between smokes you will never build up a good cake on the heel which will make it continue to smoke hot.

Re: Full Steam Ahead.
if you want to be "cured" of smoking too fast, get some MacBaren's VA#1-it helped me learn to sip & smoke slow

Re: Full Steam Ahead.
Talk about learning the hard way! That is definitely not for the newbie smoker. It is an absolutely great blend but wait until you are in the advanced stages before tackling this monster. It can burn you before you ever light it up... ok maybe not... but one wrong move and it will bite you hard.

Along the way I have noticed that pipes with "wide" and "aligned" airholes will bite a lot less than constricted/misaligned ones. Pipes that used to give me trouble smoked a lot cooler and with less tongue-damage after I drilled open or aligned their airholes/tenons.
