New Pipe user checking in...

Howdy... and a little background and intro.

I normally just smoke a cigar on occasion and I have maybe 3 cigarettes a year (cigs taste nasty and leave my mouth feeling disgusting. I do however love the smell of pipe tabacco.

I'm 38 and having just been laid off, decided to pickup a relaxing hobby to pass the time.

Today I stopped by the Tinderbox in Hollywood and scored a Palmer Killarney and a bit of Cherry Tabacco and Marc Baren NO. 8 (limited edition). Then stopped by Mission Liquers in Pasadena and found a nice Peterson Fishtail Ebony System pipe and Mac Baren Cube Tabacco.

I realize it's a lot probably to get all at once but I enjoy my hobbies and go all out whenever I can. (R/C cars, auto racing at Willow Springs raceway in my Mustang, Computer games, shooting my handguns and brewing my own beer).

My buddy and I took his kid to a park near my old apt and he smoked a cigar while I put one pipe about 1/2 full of Cherry and used my cigar lighter and things went pretty well for my first time I think. Had to relight a couple times and kinda scorched the rim of the pipe with the jet flame from the lighter. I bought a zippo an hour later just for the pipe.

Tonight I fired up my second smoke and it went better except for dropping the pipe on the ground... haha

Anyway... Just dropping in to say Hello. I've cruised the forum for a few days and registered yesterday. Tons of good info here and seems like a ton of good peeps.

Rock on!

Jake

Do you guys use one pipe for tabacco with aromas and then a seperate one for non-aroma tabacco's?

Welcome Jake and yes, I absolutely use a different pipe for aromatics. As I rarely smoke aro's anymore I have a couple corncobs for this purpose.
As you have figured out, jet flame is a no-no with pipes. The Zippo specially made for the pipe is a good start. There are a lot of other lighters that perform very well specifically for pipes. My favorite is the Old Boy by IMCorona. Pricier than a Zippo but, imho, worth it.
Anyway, nice to meet ya. Enjoy your new hobby/money pit

Re: New Pipe user checking in...

Welcome to the pipe world.

I have pipes dedicated to aromatics but not for specific blends. To me that is overkill. If it is an aro pipe I will smoke any aro in it.

I will have a total of 3 pipes for now, one of which I ordered off some website. I think I'll dedicate one of them to aroma tabacco but havn't decided which one yet.

I think one of them will be my carry all and the other two stay at home.
