Re: What is your desert island smoke?
I guess my #1 desert island smoke is Old Gowrie. Up until a few years back, OG had an oat note (
) in the background. That is more of a citrus note now. (I do miss the older stuff.) Mind you, if i had to add room note to the mix it would not be #1. It can get a little musty, but we are talking about a whole island...Strong enough to hit the spot every time. Mild enough to smoke all day. Subtle enough to enjoy a slow thoughtful smoke.........when all you have is time. |

Re: What is your desert island smoke?
Man, these threads make me tremble. I can't even imagine just having one blend forever. My need to hoard things is a big part of my piping I think.
Probably would have to say McCranies '83 Red Ribbon.

Tough Call. My favorite at this moment is pipesandcigars.com 'Old Red', a very simple but tasty Virginia with no bite whatsoever.

![]() I was going to say my desert island smoke would be Cope's Escudo but I just got back into pipes and I see it's discontinued. I guess I'd have to go with Ashton Old London pebble cut. |

Re: What is your desert island smoke?
Right now it would be a toss up between McConnell's Scottish Cake and Gawith's Best Brown.

Re: What is your desert island smoke?
I think it's a 3-way tie between Best Brown Flake, Firedance and chocolate flake from SG, but if I have to choose....BBF.

Oh well, I've got about a pound of it left from the old days. But I guess that island just got a little smaller, eh? No Escudo, no Old London, no Dunhill Elizabethan... time to find some new favorites! |
