Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
First tin I got as a novice was a tin of 965 and some Petersen aro. They must been decades old, I put them on various remoisturing (check my posts) schemes of my own. Then they smoked fine!

Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
Open it and check it. If it is indeed dry it can be rehydrated and should have little ill effect, then put it in a small jar.

Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
CC is a flake.....therefore it may have more of a sound when the can is shaken than something that is rubbed. Big hunks of baccy versus sungle strands. A little bit of moisture and you should be ready to go......but bear in mind, alot of people believe a pipe tobacco should be just a little bit away from falling apart into dust.
The McC tins are usually pretty good about holding moisture. I would think you are in pretty good shape. |

Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
If it hasn't been opened and you're planning on storing it then don't open it. The sound you're hearing is probably just the chunks of broken flake and not dry tobacco at all.

They always sound dry to me too. I wouldn't sweat it. I am sure they are fine.

My 2008 sounded the same way, but everything was fine

Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
I was worried before I opened an 05 tin since, like you, I thought it was dry. Once I opened the tin I realized that if anything it was on the wet side. If the tin is sealed I wouldn't worry unless there is the smell of tobacco leaking out of the tin.

Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
If it hasn't been unsealed it shouldn't be dry, just let it sit, I bet it's fine.

Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
I recently bought 10 dunhill 965 tins, and they all smell tobacco...is that a bad sign for storing then? They are sealed so its mysterious I think

Re: just bought a tin, sounds dry
It could be a bad sign. If you can smell the tobacco inside it probably doesn't have a completely airtight seal. And ultimately the stuff you're smelling is the stuff you want to smoke.
