****** banning tobacco sales

Saw this on another forum. ****** is no longer allowing payment for vintage (or otherwise) tobacco sales on Ebay. I don't think Ebay has gone to ****** only payments yet but it is a plan supposedly to be implemented in the coming months. If only tobacco friendly people owned ****** and Ebay. Hopefully pipes aren't next on their list.

PP has always banned tobac sales, they just finally enforced it w/one particular seller. the fact that he was selling currently available tins as vintage or rare made it easy. now don't get me wrong, it's not that i think it's a good (or bad for that matter) thing, i never purchased from him so i got no dog in this fight. the seller had the option of using other methods of payment provided his tobac was actually collectible but he chose not to. the thing that really sucks is that ebay & PP can do whatever they want & change their rules if necessary to give them reason to do so.

How can they go to PP only payments? I mean, I highly doubt that will stop people from taking Money orders and the like. All you need to do is e-mail the seller and ask. I am pretty sure most would do it anyways. You can't really stop people from taking a certain payment for their product.

lol, can't wait to see how many "Empty" cans of vintage tobacco go up for sale and how many people will probably be ripped off from scammers who can say "But it said empty tin"

Ebay owns Playplal so they "double dip" from their auctions by collecting the payment fees as well.

Let's not panic folks. Someone else will fill the need, and they will profit from the dough eBay obviously doesn't want. It's the free market at work.

I guess if all emails have to go through the Ebay email service they can control the flow of information between seller and would-be-buyers

PS - was not trying to start one of those "the antis/fascists/socialists/evil overlords of the universe are trying to take away our tobacco" threads. Just passing on info for those who like to buy vintage tins on Ebay and I think Pipestud is a reliable enough guy to believe when he says his tobacco auctions were shut down for having Playpal listed as a payment option. Currently is still ok to list with other payment methods.

I've got to question how this is going to work. I use their "bank", but how will they keep me from paying with an alternate method?

I'm fairly certain that ****** and Ebay don't ban the sale of tobacco etc through their sites because of any moral upheavings against such items. They do it for LEGAL reasons.
